Alberta has a rich community of schools and programs tailored towards youth and students. If you are looking for classes for yourself or your child, start your search here! Programs are organized by community. If you run theatre classes for youth, and don’t see your organization represented below, please send an email to simone@theatrealberta.com to be added to the page.

Program descriptions are provided to Theatre Alberta by individual theatre organizations. Theatre Alberta does not necessarily endorse the organizations and/or individuals submitting listings on our site. Each program is assigned one or more of the below classification codes depending on what kind of youth programming it offers: 
TYA – Produces Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) productions
YE – Offers youth educational/outreach programs, theatre schools, camps, classes, and/or workshops

Musical Explorations is a summer music camp held in the beautiful town of Athabasca, Alberta. The program runs in July from 9am to 4pm each day. The explorations will include musical theatre numbers, speech workshops, vocal development, and the dramatic process. Edmonton Opera inspires youth to discover the magic of opera through a variety of programs. Accessibly-priced Student Dress Rehearsals invite K-12 students to experience their first opera at the Jubilee Auditorium, complete with educational resources for teachers. Opera Tots is a multi-sensory experience designed specially for toddlers aged 6 mo.–3 years and their parents. Kids aged 8–12 learn about the different art forms that come together in opera during Summer Camp.

The Foote Theatre School (FTS) is the oldest and largest theatre school in Edmonton. Since 1966, we have provided year-round classes for all ages and experience levels, teaching physical, technical, and creative skills in both acting and musical theatre. The Citadel Theatre Young Companies is an advanced training and mentorship program for aspiring artists between the ages of 16-21 who are serious about pursuing post-secondary education and a career in theatre.
 

KidsFringe is a free, fun and a family-friendly mini-Fringe site organized by Fringe Theatre Adventures (FTA) specifically for our littlest Fringers. We provide ten days of exciting arts-based activities and entertainment for children and youth, their families and caregivers. Experience plays, music, storytelling, and more on the KidStage, hear a story in the Book Nook, or get creative at the Craft Corner. Kompany Family Theatre produces a season of high quality, professional, touring productions for daycares, schools, libraries, community events & festivals. We also produce a fully-staged TYA production in the Westbury Theatre (Fringe Theatre Adventures) each fall. Kompany offers a summer mentorship programme where teens, alongside theatre professionals, create and perform a touring show for very young audiences and families and participate in weekly professional theatre skills workshops. During the year we offer touring drama classes for day cares, preschools & schools and a weekly drop-in Drama Class for kids 7 years & up. And, we have a week-long summer day camp for kids 6 to 12 years.

Theatre Alberta’s Artstrek is a summer school for teens that explores the exciting world of theatre and stagecraft. Over the course of a week in residence at Red Deer College, students attending Artstrek will learn about acting, voice, movement, directing, sound/music, design, creation and collaboration. They will study with professional theatre artists and educators, and make friends with teens from across Alberta. 
Artstrek is not a talent-based program – for more than 50 years we have welcomed all teens who are passionate about theatre and enthusiastic about learning.
