Creating Personal Land Acknowledgements poster image

In this two-hour-long webinar, participants learned how to craft a personal land acknowledgement. To achieve that aim, Naheyawin explored cultural teachings that have helped them navigate troubled times, facilitated attendees positioning themselves differently with help from Indigenous perspectives, and provided an open space for participants to discuss their connection to the land and history.

FACILITATORS

Jacquelyn Cardinal

JACQUELYN CARDINAL

Jacquelyn is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Naheyawin, an Edmonton based agency that serves as a bridge between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, and Vice President Brand of Social Awareness Group, a group of companies with a shared aim to promote Indigenous prosperity in a meaningful and sustainable way through technology platforms. Most notably to date, she has been honoured to receive an Esquao Award for Achievement in Business, a prestigious place in Edmonton’s Top 40 Under 40 class of 2018, and a SHEInnovates Award from the UN Women’s Global Innovation Coalition for Change, all three of which she was nominated for by her supportive community. In early 2019 her first play, Lake of the Strangers, co-written with her brother and co-produced with Fringe Theatre, premiered to critical and popular acclaim. When she isn’t using ancient tools to solve contemporary problems, she spends her time learning all she can about emergent technologies and exploring her love for film by shooting and editing short films.

Hunter Cardinal

HUNTER CARDINAL

Hunter is an actor and Indigenous myth-architect. He is Co-Founder and Director of Story at Naheyawin, an agency based in Edmonton, Alberta, that serves as a bridge between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Last year he was recognized by his community as Edmonton’s Best Actor and awarded a place in Edmonton’s esteemed Top 40 Under 40 class of 2018. In early 2019 his first play, Lake of the Strangers, co-written with his sister and co-produced with Fringe Theatre, premiered to critical and popular acclaim. When he isn’t welcoming people into ancient worldviews and ways of being, he can be found connecting with his culture in ceremony or adapting his favourite songs to the mandolin.
