RBC Emerge 2024: Directory

Hello, my name is Noah Sharon and I am 21 years old. Both the theatre and film have been big parts of my life since I was a kid and I am still passionate about them today. I hope to use all my time learning more and doing what I love.

I have had numerous amounts of theatre experience throughout the public school system and in university as well and I still love it. My most recent credit is Jean-Paul Marat in Marat/Sade at the University of Alberta. I love that university has been able to challenge my range as an actor going from only comedy in high school to playing dramatic and borderline evil characters in university. My degree has also challenged me in the production side of theatre as well and I have grown to love every aspect of theatre.

With film I have very little experience in other than a short film that I acted in once in high school. I have always been curious about the film industry which is why I hope to work in both film and theatre. Film has been quite a mystery to me so I am hoping to unlock this mystery and discover everything about it.

I am keen and willing to work very hard and won't stop working towards my goals until I reach them.

Alvyna Zimmer is a queer, pagan, multi-disciplinary artist from Southern Alberta. They spent the last four years honing their acting skills at Rosebud School of the Arts. They have appeared on stage in multiple RSA shows over the years, as an actor, dancer, and singer. Their skills as a painter and poet have become touchstones for all their art, having dabbled in play writing, scenic and costume design, and directing.

I am a soon-to-be graduate of Rosebud School of the Arts. I grew up in Northern Alberta, and though opportunity was slim, found every chance I could to be on stage. Through church productions, drama camps, and school plays, I managed to get a decent number of shows under my belt. I was on a touring drama team at Peace River Bible Institute for two years and I knew that my next step was to take my acting more seriously. I encountered Rosebud through my years at the Canadian Badlands Performing Arts Summer Camp and knew that this was the place to go. I have learned a lot about myself as a person, as well as an actor. The importance of staying curious, loving your scene partner, and living truthfully. All these come together to create an engaging real person on stage.

Rain (she/her) is an emerging actor, singer, dancer, and aspiring playwright and producer who was born and raised here in Edmonton. She is absolutely thrilled to be here at Emerge! Emily Smith is an Edmonton based actor playwright and clown. They are a recent graduate of the first class of the MacEwan Theatre Performance Art BFA. They have recently been on stage as Toby Belch in Twelfth Night, Enid Hoops in Legally Blonde and Rosemary in London Road.

Lorelei Johnson has enjoyed acting in musical theatre from the young age of nine, when her parents threw her into classes to help her overcome her shyness. Now, she's happy to have made the choice to pursue acting professionally, and she's been having the best time participating in classes with Company of Rogues over the last three years. She has worked with Cast & Crew Youth Theatre Society, Theatre in the Country, and Emerald Pig Theatrical Society, all located in B.C. Past credits include the Wicked Witch of the West in The Magical Land of Oz, Cinderella in Into the Woods, and Mrs. Lily Mortar in The Children's Hour. Lorelei enjoys singing in her spare time, and she is an aspiring author who is working on publishing her first novel. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in Emerge this year.

Rowan Andruik is an emerging theatre artist born and based in Edmonton, Alberta /Amiskwaciy-wâskahikan. Rowan started performing at a young age, mostly in dance, which she did for a decade. Her early love of dance and movement has fueled her dedication to highly physical theatre, as well as fight and intimacy work. While attending the University of Alberta, first in the BA Drama program and currently in the BFA Acting program, Rowan has had the opportunity to train in multiple forms of performance and found a favourite niche in classical and Greek text. She got to explore this niche and utilize her movement background as Cassandra/Helen in Studio Theatre’s Troilus and Cressida, as Helen was a mostly silent role that lived in movement and silhouette. Selected credits include: Usher/God/Understanding in Everybody (Studio Theatre) and Emilia (Pisanio) in Cymbeline (Bleviss Laboratory Theatre).

Aidan Laudersmith is an Alberta-based multidisciplinary performer, currently living in Amiskwaciwâskahikan, colonially known as Edmonton. He was born in Mohkinstsis, colonially known as Calgary and has been acting and singing for as long as he can remember. In addition to acting and singing, Aidan also has experience clowning and has created and performed clown turns for the Play the Fool Festival’s Rookie Cabaret and the Off-the-Cuff Cabaret. He is producing a clown cabaret this year that will be in the Edmonton Fringe Festival called the Oddballs’ Cabaret.

Ryley is a graduate of MacEwan musical theatre performance program (BFA), and is excited to find new opportunities in the Edmonton theatre scene and beyond. Shae-Lynn is a musical theatre performer and vocalist born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba but who now resides in Edmonton Alberta. She is a proud graduate of MacEwan University’s Musical Theatre Performance program (BFA).

Ethan Lang, currently in the final year of his BFA in the MacEwan Music Theatre Performance Program, is a versatile individual who tackles many roles in the arts, such as actor, writer, and producer. Notable credits in his repertoire include portraying Aldolpho in "The Drowsy Chaperone" at MacEwan University, taking on the role of Kyle in "Legally Blonde" (also at MacEwan University), and living and embodying the character of Dead Man Walking in "(Going) Down on our Luck" with Top Bunk Theatre. Beyond his stage accomplishments, Ethan is actively engaged in writing for the upcoming Edmonton Fringe Festival and is concurrently working on a self-produced TV show.

Born and raised on Treaty 4 territory in Gray, Saskatchewan, Kit Brooks is an emerging theatre artist now based in Edmonton, Alberta. Kit has just crossed the finish line of their BFA training at MacEwan University in the Music Theatre Performance program, and they are thrilled to now have the opportunity to fully dive into the world of theatre here in Alberta.

Robyn Clark is a Métis emerging theatre artist and educator from Sikóóhkotok (Lethbridge) currently residing in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton). She is a recent graduate of MacEwan University's Music Theatre Performance BFA and also completed two years at the University of Lethbridge in the Drama Education BFA/BEd program. They frequently volunteer with local theatre companies including Workshop West Playwright's Theatre, Freewill Shakespeare Festival, Grindstone Theatre, Walterdale Theatre (Edmonton), and New West Theatre (Lethbridge). Robyn is passionate about increasing accessibility in the arts and art education, and is currently facilitating an arts-based research project that intends to assist emerging artists in discovering and expressing complex and marginalized artistic identities through cabaret performance. She also enjoys collecting double-decker teapots. Lily Davies (she/her) is an emerging Edmonton actor and creative. Originally born in Oxford, England she first started acting at Kaleidoscope Theatre in Victoria where she played Miss Hannigan in a youth musical theater showcase. This year she will be graduating from the University of Alberta with a BFA in Acting. As an artist, Lily is drawn to the unexpected. She loves creating and acting in work that mixes genres and styles. One day she hopes to play “Harper Pitt,” her favorite character from her favourite play Angels in America. Spenser Kells is an emerging Edmonton-based actor and multidisciplinary artist. They are very excited to graduate from the BFA in Acting at the University of Alberta in May 2024. Along with acting, they are also a musician, playing bass in the punk band ‘Best in Show’, and a playwright, producing their first play ‘Sheep Play’ at the 2024 Edmonton Fringe. If Spenser is anything, they are a flexible and versatile performer that is constantly working to perfect their craft and gain new skills.

Jenna Elvey is an upcoming young actor, singer, and costumer, she’s currently attending Company of Rogues Acting Studio and is enrolled in their masterclass program. Jenna has a background in classical stage theatre, musical theatre, film, and voice over, performing as Viola in Twelfth Night (Calgary Young People's theatre), Grandma in The Addams Family Musical (Performing and Visual Arts Program), Peggy in The Children's Hour (Company of Rogues Acting Studio) and many more. Jenna has learned many techniques over the past few years in the masterclass program such as Physical Theatre, Meisner, Film, and Scene Study.

Katarina Borsig is a non-union Film/TV & Theatre actress based in Calgary, AB. She will complete the Company of Rogues Masterclass program in 2024.

Maxwell Vesely is a multidisciplinary Canadian theatre artist, improviser, and performer from Red Deer, Alberta. He is passionate about both theatre and music, playing piano, trumpet, and more recently has taken up accordion and composing. Maxwell deeply loves experiencing theatre, onstage and off, and constantly endeavours to craft performances that are rich, affective and professional. At the UofA, he has had the privilege of working with an incredible faculty, training in a variety of different acting styles, including both classical and modern text, clown, and film. He is also trained in various aspects of movement and dance such as contemporary, tap, ballet, and stage combat. In his final year, at the UofA’s Studio Theatre, Maxwell had the pleasure of music directing and acting in Paula Vogel’s Indecent as Lemml, and playing both Paris/Calchas and Prospero in Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s Rough Magic respectively.

Steve Davis is a new actor, creator, filmmaker and writer who is based in Calgary, Alberta. He is a second year masterclass student at Company of Rogues and has done classes such as; Meisner, Voice and Movement for the Actor, Scene Study, Film, and Voice Over. Steve has portrayed the following stage characters; from his first performance in Picnic, Bomber Gutzel to Dr Joseph Cardin from The Children’s Hour. He has made his debut project, Souls & Sanctuaries on YouTube. Steve is ready for any project, no matter the film or stage production.

Xavier is an emerging theatre designer and technician based in Southern Alberta, he is pursing a BFA in Dramatic Arts Tech and Design at the University of Lethbridge with plans to graduate in Spring of 2024.
He primarily does lighting design but also has experience working as a lighting technician, scene shop carpenter as well working in a variety of backstage positions in university productions and professional productions.
In addition to his design work he also served as the technical director of TheatreXtra from 2022-2024, a student run theatre company operating out of the University of Lethbridge, supporting student production teams in mounting new works

Katelyn Cabalo (she/her) is a first-generation Filipina Canadian performing artist based in amiskwacîwâskahikan / Edmonton. She is a University of Alberta BA graduate, with a major in Drama and Political Science. As a multi-disciplinary artist, Katelyn enjoys doing work that challenges her both as an artist and as a person. Her work is based in applied theatre, musical theatre, movement-focused and devised theatre, as well as contemporary pieces. Her core passion and goal as a theatre artist is to do and create work that emphasizes the members and stories of marginalized communities, specifically BIPOC. She believes that the performing arts are a beautiful platform in which these crucial stories and messages can be told in a way that inspires empathy. Katelyn believes this empathy can act as a catalyst for change, both within and outside of our theatre communities.

Jordan Empson (she/they) is an Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton) artist who graduated from the BFA Acting Program at the University of Alberta. She is a multi-disciplinary artist trained in acting, clown, singing, movement, and stage combat. During their time in the BFA, she discovered a passion for movement in its many forms, and can often be found improvising and exploring the interesting physical skills their body can do. She is also a skilled musician who plays multiple instruments, including but not limited to: guitar, violin, piano, and saxophone.

Liz Janzen (she/her) is an emerging Edmonton based performer, writer, and director originally from Stony Plain, Alberta. She will be a graduate of the inaugural class of MacEwan University’s BFA in Music Theatre Performance program, and is a founder/producer/artistic director of Top Bunk Theatre, founded in 2023. Performance credits include: Where Dark Things Dwell (Fort Edmonton Park), Sunday in the Park with George, The Drowsy Chaperone, Legally Blonde, Spring Awakening, and London Road (MacEwan University), Erlking (SATCO), and (Going) Down on our Luck (Top Bunk Theatre). Workshop credits include: DMV, The Televangelists and S. Botson (NextFest Arts Co.). She also wrote, directed, and co-produced (Going) Down on our Luck (Top Bunk Theatre) at the Lumos Dental Stage in 2023.
