Stag & Doe

Central Alberta Theatre
Red Deer

STAG AND DOE
BY MARC CRAWFORD
Mar 10 – 25
Directed by Barbara Jean Askin

Stag & Doe brings to life a wildly funny and unexpectedly touching show that looks at a distinctly rural Canadian prenuptial tradition. It also shines a light on the nature of love, marriage, and weddings.

Bonnie and Brad are having a party to raise money for their upcoming wedding—the cost of which has secretly gotten out of control. Their wisecracking Maid of Honour, Dee, is still getting over being left at the altar seven years ago—and now she has to come face-to-face with her ex. Bridezilla Mandy and her doting groom Rob are getting married today—even though their big white tent blew away in last night’s storm. And oh yeah…single dad Jay just found out his entire catering staff is in jail! It’s all happening at the same time, in the same community hall kitchen, in the same small town.

All the Little Animals I Have Eaten

Edmonton New Shadow Theatre Society
Edmonton

Set in the extraordinarily modern bistro of an all-women’s condominium, All The Little Animals I Have Eaten follows a tender-hearted young server on the most harrowing shift of her life. Governor General Award-nominated, powerhouse playwright Karen Hines (The Pochsy Plays; Crawlspace) serves up a biting meditation on capitalism, consumption, precarity and hope in her latest dark comedy.
This timely play examines the commodification of feminism, neo-liberalism, and the increasingly unattainable dream of snatching a piece of the real-estate pie.

10 Funerals

Edmonton New Shadow Theatre Society
Edmonton

Jack and Maurice have been together for decades. As they approach old age, and they change more every year, the one thing they will always have in common is the number of funerals they attended together. So many, in fact, that they can make jokes about it.
10 Funerals revisits the immediate aftermaths of some of the more moving, inspirational, or hilarious funerals they survived, telling the story of their lives together by remembering the many deaths they mourned. Playwright Darrin Hagen once again turns his comic eye towards his most potent source of inspiration: death.
A world premiere by Edmonton’s own guy in disguise.
