Theatre Alberta’s Library isn’t the only place to find the script(s) you are looking for.  Theatre Alberta Members have access to five Drama Online Databases, and anyone may gain access to the other script collections below.

Drama Online Databases

Theatre Alberta members have FREE access to hundreds of titles in five Drama Online Databases: Playwrights Canada Press, Aurora Metro Books, the Oberon Books Collection, Nick Hern Modern Plays, and Critical Studies and Performance Practice.

Instructions

  1. Click the DRAMA ONLINE image above or link below for the database you would like to access.
  2. Click the ‘Subscription Required’ link and you will be directed to log in.
  3. Enter the user name and password provided with your membership (if you did not receive a Drama Online user name and password please contact us at library@theatrealberta.com.)
  4. Once you are logged in search or browse the database.
  5. Click the READ PLAY, PLAY VIDEO, or other content links to access the items you wish to view.

The content of these databases is protected by copyright law, and is subject to all regulations pertaining to that law. Material within the databases is intended for personal use ONLY for the purposes of research, teaching, and private study. Plays that are produced from the databases are subject to royalty fees.

Playwrights Canada Press

The Playwrights Canada Press collection features more than 170 plays from established and emerging Canadian playwrights. It includes plays from notable and award-winning authors such as Daniel MacIvor, Hannah Moscovitch, Colleen Murphy, Yvette Nolan, Donna-Michelle St. Bernard, Jordan Tannahill, and Judith Thompson. Highlighted titles include Lion in the Streets, East of Berlin, The Monument, White Biting Dog, Bone Cage, and Almighty Voice and His Wife.

Aurora Metro Books

Aurora Metro Books is an independent publisher of fiction, non-fiction, YA fiction and drama which was established by Cheryl Robson over 25 years ago. With more than 120 drama plays in print, including works from Robin Soans, Manjula Padmanabhan and Germaine Greer, as well as a formidable list of non-fiction books on theatre, Aurora Metro Books has built a wide-ranging and highly contemporary list of new drama, with collections of women’s drama, international drama and drama by black and Asian writers, proving to be popular with colleges and universities. Aurora Metro Books’ list of plays for Young People is the finest in the UK.

Oberon Books Collection

From ground-breaking British plays to the best of international drama and plays in translation, the Oberon Books Collection is a unique and inspiring collection that features a diverse gathering of canonical and contemporary drama.

Nick Hern Books Modern Plays

The Nick Hern Books Modern Plays collection includes over 625 plays from many of the UK and Ireland’s preeminent playwrights, as well as exciting new voices. It offers a wide and varied range of award-winning and widely studied plays, and is continually updated with new works fresh from leading theatres.

Critical Studies and Performance Practice

This collection features over 400 academic books from the prestigious Methuen Drama and The Arden Shakespeare imprints. Together they offer invaluable critical, contextual and pedagogic content from leading voices in theatre, performance and Shakespeare studies. The collection also includes 60 actor training videos through PATAZ: Physical Actor Training – an online A-Z.
