Theatre Alberta’s 17th annual Emerge took place in an online format and included production/technical and stage management graduates for the first time. A livestream event of audition tapes was held in September followed by a virtual mixer. We hosted artistic and casting directors and graduates from theatre programs across the province. 2021 Emerge included graduates from MacEwan University, University of Alberta (BA & BFA), Rosebud School of the Arts, University of Lethbridge, University of Calgary School of Creative and Performing Arts, and the Company of Rogues Actors’ Studio.
Fostering relationships between Alberta’s emerging and professional artists
Emerge is an annual general audition event held in both Edmonton and Calgary for emerging artists from Alberta’s post-secondary performance training programs. It’s an opportunity for emerging artists to introduce themselves and their work to the professional community, and for professionals to see the work of many emerging artists over the course of one day.
Emerge strengthens ties, and increases communications between our post-secondary drama programs, and the professional community.
Theatre Alberta initiated the program in 2004, and to date 958 emerging actors have participated in the Emerge audition process for the professional theatre community in our province.

Participation in Emerge is by invitation only. Theatre Alberta contacts post-secondary institutions and professional companies/individuals with invitations to participate throughout the year.
