Notes for October:

Theatre Alberta staff will be travelling around the province in October to a number of events, and we are looking forward to meeting up with the community.

Our Executive Director Keri Mitchell will be in Calgary on October 8th to host information sessions for independent and/or professional theatre companies to learn more about Workers' Compensation insurance. The session will be reprised twice (at 4 and 6 p.m.) in Studio B at The Morpheus Rehearsal Centre, located in the lower level of the Parkdale Community Centre. 3512 – 5th Avenue NW. During the weekend of October 17th - 19th, Keri and the Theatre Alberta Board of Directors will be having a board meeting in Red Deer and in Edmonton, Programmer Frazer Andrews will be at the St. Albert Amplify Youth Festival, while myself and Administrator/Executive Assistant Morgan Norwich will be in Red Deer for Showcase 2014 to promote the Picks of the Edmonton Fringe 2015/2016 Tour Lineup. Finally, Alberta Theatre Projects' Blitz Weekend is happening in Calgary that weekend as well, and we encourage you to attend. Scroll down for more information on all these events below.

Finally, we only need TWO MORE volunteers for our Casino in Edmonton on November 1-2. As you know, this is a crucial source of funding for our organization, and we could really use your help to complete our schedule. Shift times are listed below - please contact Morgan at theatreab@theatrealberta.com if you can help us out.

Theatre Alberta will be holding its casino at the Baccarat Casino, located in downtown Edmonton, on November 1st and 2nd. We are looking for existing or new members to volunteer for the last two remaining positions:

Saturday November 1st:

Day Banker - 9:00am-5:00pm

Sunday November 2nd:

Late Night Banker - 9:30pm-4:00am

PICKS OF THE EDMONTON FRINGE 2015/2016 TOUR LINEUP

  Off Book The Music Shangri-La Real Time

Theatre Alberta, Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta (ATAA), and Fringe Theatre Adventures are proud to announce the 2015/2016 Picks of the Edmonton Fringe tour lineup:

All three companies will be presenting excerpts of their work to rural Alberta presenters at Showcase 2014 at Red Deer College on October 17th. More information about each production, including tour dates and pricing, will be made available in the next couple of weeks at theatrealberta.com/tour.

 

THEATRE ALBERTA AT THE ST. ALBERT AMPLIFY YOUTH FESTIVAL

  2014 St. Albert Amplify Youth Festival

Theatre Alberta is excited to be hanging out at the Amplify Youth Festival at the Enjoy Centre, St. Albert, October 17th and 18th.

We'll be offering festival goers an opportunity to 'take up the Artstrek Shakespeare Gauntlet.' Challengers will get to don a costume, receive a Shakespearean name, and complete a fun acting challenge.

We’ll be in the main hall of the festival on Friday, October 17th from 3:00 to 6:00PM and Saturday, October 18th from 11:00AM to 6:00PM. We encourage any youth (aged 13-21) in St. Albert and the greater Edmonton area to come and take up the Gauntlet—if thou darest!

Workshops by Request are coordinated by Theatre Alberta at your request and targeted to the specific needs of your theatre company. Workshops in both technical and non-technical aspects of theatre bring highly trained professionals to your community for one, one and a half, or two-day workshops.

Tech Theatre Bootcamp in Edmonton
On October 17th, technical director and designer Bobby Smale will be leading a ‘Tech Theatre Bootcamp’ covering lights, sound, and projection with Edmonton Catholic School District teachers.

Dialects in Calmar
Doug Mertz will be heading from Edmonton to Calmar on October 25th, and bringing with him his dialect expertise. He’ll be helping the Calmar Prairie Players with British and New York dialects for their upcoming production of A Little Dickens on the Radio.

Blitz Weekend at Alberta Theatre Projects is an immersive, exclusive, and action-packed backstage weekend for all theatre fans! Join us October 17 – 19 to celebrate the world premiere of Butcher by Nicolas Billon, part of the Enbridge playRites Series of New Canadian Plays. Go behind-the-scenes for insightful conversations, new play readings, parties, and the famous Blitz Pancake Breakast.

Blitz is where audiences and artists meet to explore the themes of the play and go deeper into the world of new Canadian theatre. Let your curiosity guide you – all weekend long at ATP!
