Theatre Alberta is a registered charity!

To our Members:

Notes for February:

Theatre Alberta is pleased to announce the play of study for Artstrek 2014: Unity (1918) by Kevin Kerr.

Unity (1918) is a Governor General’s Literary Award winning epic of modern Canadian Drama. The play is set in a small prairie town at the crest of the First World War and the outbreak of a deadly influenza epidemic. Captured through the eyes of the town’s youth, Unity (1918) teems with eccentric characters, honesty, and dark comedy.

The exciting challenges for young actors that brim from Kerr’s rich text make Unity (1918) an excellent choice for this year’s play of study.

(We are also proud to note that Kevin Kerr attended Artstrek as a teen!)

Artstrek 2014

You can download a PDF version of the Artstrek 2014 brochure on our website. We will be mailing the brochure to Theatre Alberta members and schools during the first week of March. Specific Artstrek 2014 program and application information will also be available on our website on March 1st.

Most importantly: online application to attend Artstrek 2014 begins April 1st at 4:00 p.m.

In the meantime, take a few minutes to share some Artstrek memories by watching a special video created by Sui-Fan Wong, featuring teachers, supers and students from Artstrek 2013. Click here to view!

See you this summer,

Marie Gynane-Willis, Artstrek Director
Keri Mitchell, Executive Director
Frazer Andrews, Programmer

“At Artstrek, you can express yourself and be who you are."

TELUS CALGARY COMMUNITY BOARD SUPPORTS ARTSTREK 2014 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Theatre Alberta receives cheque from Calgary TELUS Community Board

Theatre Alberta is pleased to announce that the TELUS Calgary Community Board is supporting Artstrek scholarship applicants from Calgary in 2014.

In 2013, Theatre Alberta applied to the TELUS Calgary Community Board for help supporting our Artstrek Scholarship program. Theatre Alberta strives to make Artstrek: A Summer Theatre School for Teens available to all Albertan teens, regardless of ability to pay. We offer a limited number of scholarships for Artstrek students in financial need. In 2013, Theatre Alberta provided scholarships to 30 students.

"This generous donation from the TELUS Calgary Community Board will not only directly support teens from Calgary, but Theatre Alberta will also be able to spread our own scholarship resources further to help more teens from across Alberta who wish to attend Artstrek," notes Keri Mitchell, Theatre Alberta's Executive Director.

For more information about Theatre Alberta Artstrek Scholarships, please visit theatrealberta.com/artstrek/scholarships. If you would like more information about how to help Theatre Alberta offer teens from your community Artstrek scholarships or sponsorships, please contact Keri Mitchell, Executive Director, at keri@theatrealberta.com.

THEATRE ALBERTA SEEKS ARTSTREK COMMUNITY SPONSORS

Community Sponsorship

Every year, a tradition continues in which the most enthusiastic Artstrek students apply to organizations in their community to sponsor their application fees to attend our summer school for teens. There are a number of champion organizations that provide Artstrek sponsorships annually to youth in their community.

In an effort to help these enterprising students, we are collecting and sharing information from any community organization that provides (or would like to begin providing) sponsorship funding. This is a great way to not only provide assistance to resourceful local teens, but also a great way to support the long-term health of your own theatre community.

If you offer or would like to offer teens community sponsorship funding, please email Aaron Talbot at aaron@theatrealberta.com to have your organization and program profiled on our Artstrek Community Sponsorship webpage.

THEATRE ALBERTA PLAYBILL WEB-APP LOBBY SIGNS AVAILABLE

Theatre Alberta still has a number of promotional lobby signs (pictured right) celebrating the Playbill web-app and would like to send them to our member organizations for display in their venue lobbies. Theatre Alberta's Playbill is the most comprehensive information tool displaying theatre productions in Alberta. If your theatre company is a member of Theatre Alberta, your season is included in our Playbill!

The promotional posters are not only designed to inform audiences about the web-app, but they are also a great reminder to please turn off cellphones before the performance begins. (It's our fun little way of embracing new technologies while reinforcing theatre audience decorum!)

Posters are 24" by 36" and printed on durable foam-core.

Webapp_Poster

Please email Aaron Talbot at aaron@theatrealberta.com ASAP to make arrangements about how we can deliver a lobby sign to your organization.
