Notes for March

PUSHING PIXELS

Aaron here! I’m doing the opening message this month because, well, there’s a heckuva lot happening at Theatre Alberta right now, which means a heckuva lot of website updates at theatrealberta.com.

Program information for Artstrek 2013 is now live at theatrealberta.com/artstrek2013. A summary of the Artstrek 2013 website is below. If you have any questions about program eligibility or the new format of Explorations, please call us. We're here to help!

If you’re planning to attend this summer, join our Artstrek 2013 Facebook event – click here to join. For those of you on Twitter, hashtag #Artstrek or #Artstrek2013 and we will retweet!

Oh, and can we all just give Cenovus Energy a big round of applause?

Aaron Talbot

Coming up: online content for the Spring 2013 issue of All Stages will be uploaded next week. This Saturday (March 9), all 42 of your “Role of a Lifetime” entries will be published on our site. So many of you entered that we had to publish on the weekend so as to not plug up our Classifieds feed! Congratulations to David Snider of Rosebud, who was selected in our Role of A Lifetime draw for a free Theatre Alberta membership.

Finally, World Theatre Day is on March 27 and we will publish a special edition of Theatre Buzz for the day. Tell us what you’re doing to celebrate! Email [email protected] your stories and I’ll share!

Until then,

Aaron Talbot
Communications and Marketing Coordinator

“I'm interested in absolutely, absolutely every aspect of the theatrical art and I think that you're a better director if you know how to act, you're a better actor if you know how to write and you're a better writer if you're a good poet and you know how to dance and you know how to light…"

~ Robert Lepage

CENOVUS ENERGY SUPPORTS THEATRE ALBERTA'S ARTSTREK EXPANSION

Cenovus

Theatre Alberta is proud to announce that Cenovus Energy has become a major funding partner for Artstrek. The Canadian oil company has committed to an annual $25,000 donation to Theatre Alberta until 2015, for a total of $75,000 over the next three years. Theatre Alberta will apply those funds to support the addition of a third Exploration week to Artstrek, beginning in July 2013.

This new relationship builds upon a partnership established for Artstrek 2012, in which Theatre Alberta applied a $5,000 donation from Cenovus to its Artstrek Scholarship program.

Theatre Alberta is pleased that Cenovus Energy has joined the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) and Red Deer College (RDC) as our major Artstrek program partners and we thank them for their generous donation to Theatre Alberta. If you would like to join us in ensuring Artstrek can welcome all Alberta teens with a passion for theatre, please donate or contact Keri Mitchell, Executive Director, at [email protected].

NEW ARTSTREK SCHOLARSHIP: THE KEITH EWASIUK MEMORIAL AWARD

Keith Ewasiuk

Theatre Alberta is pleased to announce the creation of a new full scholarship to Artstrek in memory of our late Board Member and friend Keith Ewasiuk.

The Keith Ewasiuk Memorial Award will be awarded to an Alberta student who exemplifies leadership in the LGBTQ community at their school or in their community. The inaugural scholarship will be awarded to a student attending Artstrek 2013. It is our hope to honour a student who is fearless, compassionate and deeply committed to equality and respect for all.

Artstrek students can apply for the Keith Ewasiuk Memorial Award at the same time they register for Artstrek. However, a student can choose to email an application separately to Michelle Kennedy, Programmer at [email protected]. The deadline to apply is May 24.

Please click here for more information on award criteria.
