THEATRE ALBERTA CASINO NOVEMBER 22 & 23 VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED! Theatre Alberta's Casino will be at the Baccarat Casino — located in downtown Edmonton. We are still in need of a few volunteer champions to fill some shifts! Thursday, November 22 6:30pm to 2:00am -- Chip Runner 9:30pm to 3:00am -- Count Room (2) + alternates for both day and evening shifts

Friday, November 23
11:15am to 7:00pm -- Chip Runner (2)
6:15pm to 3:00am -- Banker
+ alternates for both day and evening shifts

Our casino is a vital source of funds for Theatre Alberta. We did the math: a single volunteer shift earns Theatre Alberta $2,015 (averaged over our past four casinos)!

Website update! We've updated the Library's home page to improve navigation and readability - and we made it fancy by adding scrolling images of our newest acquistions. Visit theatrealberta.com/library to see what's different, and email us with any comments or questions you have.

But that's not all! We've also beefed up our Hours and Directions webpage to provide our library patrons with step-by-step instructions on how to find and access our library in Edmonton - including this handy video that shows you where exactly we are inside the Percy Page Centre.

Finally - we've also added a new Pathfinder to our online Library resources. Our pathfinders are “how-to guides” intended to help you find resources on a particular subject. Our newest Pathfinder focuses on Award Winners: a collection of websites listing awards given annually to plays and playwrights in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Click here to view.

2013 HIGH PERFORMANCE RODEO LINE UP ANNOUNCED

On November 8, the line up for the 27th annual High Performance Rodeo, Calgary’s International Festival of the Arts, running January 3 to February 3, 2013, was announced.

Catalyst Theatre’s venue has been renamed and will be known as C103 to clarify the distinction between Catalyst’s productions and the building itself, which is home for many productions throughout the year by other artists and organizations in Edmonton.

November 10. This workshop will focus on developing the skills required to give consistent and honest auditions. Cost $40 (discounts available).

May 5-25, 2013. An invitation to interested professional and emerging artists and educators of various disciplines for the first ever national Ghost River Devised Production Intensive. Apply early to be considered for financial assistance.

EDMONTON

November 13 - December 11 (Five classes). This is a contemporary based technique class focusing on body awareness, control, strength building and fun! Cost: $15 drop in or $50 for the full session.

Winter Term. Freedom Tech Productions will be having a registration day for its Winter term on November 24 from noon until 3 (or by appointment). Classes include:

BORSCHT - January 18 - March 22, 2013 (FRIDAYS): This course is a mixture of acting riches, from theatre to film and everything in-between. Come and discover what ingredient you are. Cost: $350 + GST.
ONION SKIN ONE - January 14 - March 18, 2013 (MONDAYS): No other attribute is more serviceable than vocal clarity, ease, strength and precision. We will be working on voice and speech; relaxation and self-confidence. Cost: $350 + GST.

ALBERTA

December 2 - April 14. Writers in central Alberta are invited to join Scripts At Work, central Alberta’s playwright development series that gives unique opportunities for new and emerging writers to work closely with theatre professionals. Deadline to apply: November 25. Cost $100.

Walterdale Theatre Associates seeks an Artistic Director to lead its 2013-2014 Season. ADs generally serve a two-year term at Walterdale. Like all artistic positions in the company, the AD is a volunteer position. Deadline: December 31.

Calls For Submissions

Dr. Dasha Goody Foundation is now accepting submissions for project-specific funding assistance for vocal performing arts students for the purpose of advancing their Musical Theatre Training. Deadline: November 15 at 5 p.m.

Urban Curvz Theatre and Alberta Playwrights' Network are currently accepting submissions from emerging and transitioning female playwrights for inclusion in Girls Gone Wilde: A Late Night Cabaret. Deadline: November 15.

Alberta Playwright’s Network (APN) invites play submissions to be read by the dramaturgical committee consisting of the APN Team and Act One Guest Star Clem Martini. Deadline for submissions: November 30.

Theatre BSMT and Alberta Playwright’s Network (APN) call for scripts for a new playwriting competition for emerging Albertan playwrights. Deadline for submissions: November 30.

Common Ground Arts Society seeks project submissions and artists for a site-specific smorgasbord, happening June 27-30, exhibiting explosive and dynamic new works in a variety of unconventional spaces. Deadline: December 1.

Sage Theatre is now accepting submissions for its ninth annual Ignite! Festival for Emerging Artists. Ignite! features new works of theatre, dance, music, and visual art. Deadline: December 14.

Plays for the 9th Annual Scripts At Work Playwright Competition must be 1 – 45 minutes in length (maximum 30 pages). Deadline: December 15 at midnight.

Alberta Drama Festival Association (ADFA) - Edmonton Zone invites submissions for its 2013 one-act play competition. Any scripted play, previously published or new, between 10 to 60 minutes in length, is eligible for production. Deadline: December 17.

Writer's Guild of Alberta invites writers from across Alberta and their publishers to submit to this year’s award categories, including the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Drama. Deadline: December 31.

Walterdale Theatre Associates seeks proposals (scripts and other info) from individuals interesting in directing for its upcoming season. Deadline: January 5, 2013.

Playwrights Canada Press invites submissions of English-language one-act plays suitable for high schools to be included in a new anthology for publication in 2014. Deadline for submissions: May 3, 2013.
