What's New at TA

CASINO CASINO CASINO!

January 17 and 18, 2011 are drawing closer and closer! These are the dates of the next Theatre Alberta Casino at the Baccarat Casino in downtown Edmonton. We are still looking for existing or new members to volunteer. Not to worry if you’ve never worked a casino before, you’ll receive on-the-spot training for whichever role you choose to fill. It’s easy, it’s fun, you’ll meet new people, and you’ll help ensure Theatre Alberta receives vital funding! Please contact the office and we’ll be happy to give you more information. All volunteers receive credit towards their Theatre Alberta membership. For more information or to volunteer, call us at 780-422-8162 (toll free 1-888-422-8160) or email Stephanie at theatreab@theatrealberta.com.

UPDATING THE EMERGE INVITE LIST

Theatre Alberta is constantly adding new professional theatre contacts in Alberta to its Emerge program invite list. Emerge is an annual audition event held in in April in both Edmonton and Calgary that brings together graduates of Alberta post-secondary acting programs with Alberta’s artistic directors, freelance directors, casting directors, and talent agents. If you fall in to one of these categories and would like to be considered for the Emerge professionals invite list, or if you know of a professional company or individual new to the industry who’s looking for fresh talent, please contact Julie at admin@theatrealberta.com.

Neat, huh?

What we would like to do now is update our roster of instructors, i.e. theatre professionals. Yes, we know a lot of you, but we also know there are some of you hiding in the woodwork that haven’t tripped our radar yet. Or maybe you taught for us a while ago but have new and exciting expertise to share! If you are interested in teaching Albertan communities your specialty, please send in your resume with teaching experience highlighted along with a brief bio to Stephanie at theatreab@theatrealberta.com.

PLAYWORKS INK S.A.D.?

Theatre Alberta and Swallow-a-Bicycle are offering an antidote to those suffering from PlayWorks Ink withdrawal symptoms… Neo-Bouffon with Karen Hines (November 23-28, courtesy of Swallow-a-Bicycle, Calgary).

Neo-Bouffon is Karen Hines' Canadian response to the Bouffon clown traditions of Parisian master Philippe Gaulier. Focused on using essential elements of Bouffon within the context of contemporary North American culture, through the writing and performing of comedic parodies, the work encourages a comedic dissection of societal maladies and afflictions.

Designed for performers, directors, creators and writers, participants will focus on strategies for the creation and development of material. Current Theatre Alberta members will receive a special registration rate of $300. (The regular rate is $400—that’s a $100 savings in fees!) There are limited discount spots available—register now to avoid disappointment! More >
