"Some mystery should be left in the revelation of character in a play, just as a great deal of mystery is always left in the revelation of character in life, even in one's own character to himself." – Tennessee Williams

ARTSTREK REGISTRATIONS POURING IN!

DRAMAWORKS 2010 REGISTRATION GOES LIVE!

Registration for Dramaworks 2010 is off to the races! This year’s summer workshops include active explorations in physical and vocal performance, an acting intensive covering classical and contemporary material, playwriting dramatic interaction, backstage tactics, tips, and tricks for creating magical moments, ensuring technically safe theatre venues, achieving directorial vision through collaboration, improvising new stories, and discovering the full expression of stage combat.

Our special feature professional workshop brings North American Cultural Laboratory (NACL) Theatre to us from New York State! Based on the work of master teachers in the traditions of The Odin Teatret, Jerzy Grotowski, and Canadian company Primus, co-founder and Artistic Director Tannis Kowalchuk will lead professional participants though an exploration of NACL Theatre’s training and theatre creation methods.

Register online, by phone or fax. Early Bird Deadline is May 28, 2010.

AFA GRANT PROGRAM RESTRUCTURING

In an effort to ensure Alberta Foundation for the Arts programming continues to meet the needs of the province’s Arts communities, in 2006 the AFA undertook a three-year evaluation of its programming structure. Feedback from over 2000 stakeholders representing Alberta’s artists and arts organizations was received and helped to inform the AFA about programming successes, opportunities and challenges to stakeholders. Feedback gathered through the evaluation has led to the formation of a new structure for grant programming designed to streamline the application process and increase the efficiency of program administration. indie5 SEASON SUBMISSIONS

Founded in 2006, indie5 serves as an umbrella society for independent, professional theatre. Over the past four years our seasons have been an array of diverse, independent companies all looking to stretch theatrical boundaries. We aim to include different artists and companies each year, and our objective is to present unusual, risky, dangerous and unique work to Edmonton audiences.

Applications will be judged on the merit of the proposed production, the actual plausibility of putting the project up and what the company will bring that is unique to the indie5 season. indie5 presents theatrical work, but multidisciplinary projects, clown, dancetheatre, cabaret, performance art and other discipline bending, mind stretching ideas will be enthusiastically considered.
