"Acting is like being hit in the face with a fish."

What's New at TA

Emerge 2008 has come and gone with great success. Held in the Maclab Theatre in Edmonton on April 14th and the Engineered Air Theatre in Calgary on April 21st, 60 graduates from 9 of Alberta’s post-secondary performance programs showcased their skills for 64 attending directors and casting professionals, representing 55 theatre companies of varying size and activity.

Don’t miss this month’s episode of Dramatic Impact: A Podcast from Theatre Alberta. Canadian playwright Trina Davies, who was born in Saskatchewan, grew up in Edmonton, and is now based in Vancouver, talks about her journey from being a poet and actor to becoming a playwright. She discusses her latest projects and talks about the special power of theatre to touch the minds and imaginations of people and get them thinking about crucial human issues.

INDIE 5 CALL FOR SEASON PROPOSALS

Ladies and Gentlemen -- Start your engines!

Independent companies are working together to bring Edmonton a variety of exciting, risky, edgy, and off-the-mainstream work all packaged together in one season.

We are seeking proposals for the season right now!

This is a great chance to sell advance tickets to Edmonton's adventurous patrons, to increase public awareness of relatively new or unknown companies, for smaller theatre groups to market their season together, and receive support from other independent artists.

Deadline: May 15.  For more info email Indie 5 >

FORUM FOR PROFESSIONAL ACTORS IN THE EDMONTON AREA

Betty Moulton and John Ullyatt will be conducting a forum for interested professional actors (5 years out of training school and beyond), to discuss what mid-career actors would currently choose for ongoing professional skill training. This forum is in anticipation of a possible a two week master class based on the needs and requests discussed at the forum at the University of Alberta, later this year.

We have planned for the forum to take place on Monday May 12th in Edmonton, and will decide the location and time depending on the interest and response to this inquiry. We anticipate a two hour meeting.
