ARTS ORGANIZATIONS FEEL THE HEAT; FINANCE MINISTER SEEKS IDEAS FOR ECONOMIC STIMULATION

Endowment funds have been promoted by the federal and some provincial governments as a prudent way to build financial security and promote longer-term planning; however, given the current economic slow-down, arts organizations and institutions are beginning to feel the pinch as endowments are failing to generate incomes. The National Ballet of Canada is projecting a $900,000.00 shortfall in budgeted revenues due to the current market downturn.

The Canada Council for the Arts dedicates a percentage of the income earned by its endowment to operating costs and grants. Several endowed Canada Council prizes will also likely be affected, perhaps resulting in lower prize amounts or in some cases, delays in the awards themselves. It is important to note that the Canada Council has not indicated how or if the economic situation has affected its operations, grants, or prizes. More >

Edmonton

Authentic Movement is a body-based awareness discipline that is practiced widely, providing a point of creative inspiration for artists. Authentic Movement has been introduced into the world of actor preparation and performance in both Canada and Europe.

Syntonics practices invite a deepening of kinesthetic awareness and an active attentiveness to long held muscular-skeletal patterns. Greater awareness allows for a gradual elimination of habitual constrictions and compensations, creating the possibility of more responsiveness in and to our worlds.

Participants will be introduced to the guidelines and principles of these disciplines in their pure form, to create a solid foundation for further practice and exploration. More >
