Artstrek Application Form

You are about to register for Artstrek 2023!

Before you start filling out this form, please take a moment to add artstrek@theatrealberta.com to your email program's address book or safe senders list. This is the email address we will use to communicate with you - we don't want any important information to end up in your junk folder!

Registering to attend Artstrek is an intricate process and there are a number of items you will need in order to complete this online form. Please check the boxes below to ensure you have all the necessary materials before you start.

Additional Information

If this is your first time applying for Artstrek you must be recommended by a teacher or director who is familiar with your interest and/or experience in the performing arts. We recommend that you speak to your referrer before submitting your application. This form will automatically email your referrer on your behalf once you submit your application. Please do not submit the same form more than once. It will result in your referrer being emailed multiple times. If you wish, you can fill out a practice application for Artstrek 2023 without having to worry about multiple notifications and confirmations filling up someone else's inbox.

We ask that your referrer provide a recommendation within one week of your application submission.

If you have attended Artstrek in a previous year, you do not need to have someone submit a referral form on your behalf. However, we still require you to provide reference information from a teacher, drama instructor, or someone familiar with your performing arts activities. Theatre Alberta may contact your reference if more information is needed for your application. (No automatic form will be sent to the referrer for returning students.)

Privacy Policy

All application information, including medical information and reference information, requested herein is collected by Theatre Alberta for the purpose of administering the Artstrek 2023 program.

Theatre Alberta must obtain contact information for minors, their parents/guardians, and emergency contact designates. For health and safety purposes, we will also request personal health care information for minors, including health card numbers, vaccination history, and information regarding chronic conditions or necessary medications, as well as family health insurance plan details.

Theatre Alberta releases this information to Artstrek administrative staff and supervisors, who act as contractors of Theatre Alberta, for the purposes of monitoring students’ physical and emotional well-being throughout their participation in the program and responding efficiently to any health emergencies which might arise. Theatre Alberta and its contractors will not at any time release this information to outside parties, save in the case of a medical emergency to health care professionals.

Part 1: Applicant information

Part 2: Exploration

This section will help us recommend which Exploration you are eligible to attend. Our recommendation will be based on your age, your Artstrek experience, and whether or not space is available.

You are not eligible to attend Artstrek 2023. We can not accept students who are 12 years old and have not completed Grade 7 by June 2023. Thank you for your interest. We would welcome your application in 2023!

Based on your age and level of Artstrek experience, you are eligible to attend Exploration I (July 16 - 21, 2023).

Part 4: Medical Information

To help us ensure your success at Artstrek, we request you disclose any and all health conditions and medications. Participants may not be able to attend if sufficient, accurate information is not provided. Omissions can put yourself or others at risk.

Theatre Alberta collects medical information, including information about immunizations, solely in order to assist medical personnel in the case of an emergency, and according to our Privacy Policy. Click here to view Theatre Alberta's Artstrek Privacy Policy (opens in a new window).

About COVID-19: K/N95 face masks will be provided and Artstrek students will be encouraged to wear them during indoor group activities, including during classes. COVID-19 rapid antigen tests will be conducted as often as deemed necessary by program staff. Vaccination for COVID-19 is not required in order to attend.

Please note that students who have symptoms of any illness during Artstrek will be sent home, and anyone who tests positive for COVID-19, symptomatic or not, will also be sent home.

Part 5: Emergency Contacts

Theatre Alberta requires contact information for at least one parent/guardian and one emergency contact who is not a parent or guardian. The parent/guardian will be contacted first in the case of an emergency.

Part 6: Contact Information for Referrer

Your application to Artstrek 2023 is not complete without a referral. Your referrer should be a teacher or director who is familiar with your interest and/or experience in the performing arts. References from relatives will not be accepted. Returning Artstrek students must also provide contact information for the referrer listed in case we need to contact them.

Upon completion of this electronic form, we will automatically send an email to the address provided below.

Please ensure that the address provided is correct and checked by the referrer regularly. It is strongly advised that you speak with your referrer and confirm them as a reference before you complete this form. To lessen the risk of email loss, please ask your referrer to add artstrek@theatrealberta.com to their email address book or safe senders list.

Part 7: Pick Up Arrangements

Please let us know who will be picking you up from Artstrek 2023 on the final day of your Exploration Week at RDP. List one driver and one alternate driver.

If there is a change in your pick up arrangements prior to you being onsite in Red Deer, please contact Theatre Alberta by emailing andrew@theatrealberta.com. If a change in plans happens once you are at RDP, please contact the Artstrek Administrative Director, Sue Goberdhan, immediately.

Part 8: Fee Payment

Community Sponsorship

Theatre Alberta is happy to assist you in seeking sponsorship funding from your community. Upon request, we will support your application with information and documentation about Artstrek.

Some suggestions for sources of sponsorship include local individuals, businesses, schools, local theatre groups, community groups, or service organizations. Many previous Artstrek participants have been successful in seeking financial support from within their communities.

Funding is not guaranteed and you will still be required to pay the program fee in order to attend Artstrek.

Error

You have indicated that you intend to apply for funding to help pay the program fee, but you have selected "No" for all funding options (Theatre Alberta Artstrek Scholarships, the Keith Ewasiuk Memorial Award, and Community Sponsorships).

You must select "Yes" for one of these funding options and fill out the appropriate information or choose to pay the Exploration program fee in full now. Otherwise you will not be able to submit this registration form.

Once you click the "Register for Artstrek" button below, your payment will be processed through Helcim.

If you are worried your application and payment didn't come through, please check in with Theatre Alberta toll-free at 1-888-422-8160 or 780-422-8162 in the Edmonton area.

Please be patient. Don't click the button more than once. We receive a large volume of applications all at the same time, and the website is working as hard as it can to process them all.

Check your email. If you have received an email from us about your Artstrek application, then you know we received it. If you haven't received an email, please let us know. We can follow up regarding payment later. (If you call after business hours, please leave a message with your contact information and/or send us an email at artstrek@theatrealberta.com and we will follow up with you.)
