Workshops (Edmonton): Collider Festival Workshops – The Citadel Theatre

The Citadel Theatre very excited to be presenting an action-packed few days of workshops, readings, and social events, supporting a tremendous group of Albertan artists working on a wonderfully diverse cross section of plays. This year’s Collider will be showcasing the 2023/24 Citadel Playwright’s Lab, dedicated to supporting the development of new scripts suitable for large stages such as ours, and which focused on the exciting theme of Adaptation for the season.

June 1st will include a workshop on Adaptation for Large Spaces from Belinda Cornish (Garneau Block), followed by a Mixer hosted by the Alberta Chapter (YEG+) of The 3.7% Initiative, a national program that promotes women and non binary artists of colour as they look to build artistic leadership skills in the performing arts, and featuring two readings of the first Act from new works in our Playwright’s Lab – Nowhere With You: A Joel Plaskett Musical Experience by James Odin Wade, and The B-Team by Sue Goberdhan.

June 2nd features a workshop on Building A New Musical with Kate Ryan (Leave It To Jane Theatre) and Musical Director Steven Greenfield (Jersey Boys, Once), as well as a Playwright’s Mixer for artists of all career stages, capped off with two more readings of the first Act from new works our Playwright’s Lab – Persuasion, adapted from the Jane Austen novel by Katherine Kollier, and The Riverside Seniors Village Theatrical Society Presents: Romeo and Juliet by Collin Doyle.

It’s going to be a great time! We are so pleased to be able to offer the reading events and mixers for FREE (with donations accepted), and as a cherished member of Edmonton arts community it would be wonderful to see you there.

Workshop registrations are available on our website and space is limited so please sign up if you’re interested. More information on Collider Festival can be found on our website, with updates and additions added over the next few weeks.
