About the New Mythic Works Series and the Director’s Role
The Thousand Faces Festival is producing the second iteration of our New Mythic Works Series. Edmonton and Area playwrights will submit 10-20 minute plays based in mythology. 4-6 plays will be selected by a blind jury and then workshopped, rehearsed, and performed by our ensemble of four actors.

Upon assuming the role, the Director will receive scripts for the selected plays. They will participate in auditions for the ensemble cast, scheduled from May 23rd to May 26th. Rehearsals are slated to commence on June 17th. Throughout the engagement, Directors will lead engaging discussions and oversee the direction of each play’s workshop production, working closely with the Series’ Dramaturge and Producer, in consultation with the Artistic Director. The workshop performances are scheduled for the weekend of July 12th-14th. Workshop rehearsals are designed to provide playwrights with the invaluable opportunity to hear their work come to life, engage in constructive discussions, and potentially refine their scripts. Workshop performances offer playwrights the pivotal experience of witnessing their creations unfold before a live audience for the first time.

  • Adaptability and Willingness to Learn: Openness to learning and developing new skills in directing, particularly in the context of new play development.
  • Willingness to adapt to the dynamic nature of the role and embrace opportunities for growth and experimentation.
