Auditions (Edmonton): From Cradle To Stage Performers – Walterdale Theatre

Walterdale’s From Cradle To Stage Festival of New Work, May 14 – 19 2024, includes staged readings of 9 new scripts by local writers, between 10 minutes and 60 minutes in length. We seek to include a wide range of ages, cultural backgrounds, and genders in our reading team. In particular, we are seeking 3 Asian (preferably Chinese) readers to portray female characters in Onwards to Never. Note that genders indicated in the following list are genders of characters – the directors will consider all submissions.

Conversations With Cows by Blaine Newton (1f, 1m)
Bed Bath & The Great Beyond by Logan Sundquist (1f, 1 nb or f)
Hags by Donna Call (3f)
Modern Day Saints by Kristen M. Finlay (3-8 f with doubling)
Onward to Never by Grace Li (4 f or nb)
The Chart by Shawn Marshall (2 m, 1 any gender)
The Chinese Room Problem by Michael Tay (2f, 2m)
The Warning Monuments by Madi May (4f, 2m – one F has a few bars of a cappella singing)
Up & Down in an Elevator by Bridgette Boyko (1f, 1m, 1 any gender)
Readers don’t need to memorize, but should attend scheduled rehearsals and become familiar with their script.

How to submit:
Prepare a short video clip of yourself reading something, 1-2 minutes in length. It could be a monologue, an excerpt from a play, an essay, or a piece of fiction or poetry. Introduce yourself at the start of the video. Do not worry about background, lighting, makeup, or other production details – just give the directors a chance to hear you read.

Before April 10th at 11:59 pm, complete the submission form at the following link and upload your video clip. Maximum file size is 200 MB. If you have difficulty uploading, please email or for support.

Submit here:

Directors will contact readers after April 10th to offer them roles or ask more questions. The production team will confirm receipt of each submission within 48 hours, and will follow up with everyone who submits within a week of the submission deadline.

Time Commitment:

  • Each script will have two Zoom rehearsals, dates April 15-29.
  • You will then have one or two in-person rehearsals at Walterdale Theatre in Edmonton, dates Apr 30-May 5.
  • You will need to attend two tech rehearsals at Walterdale, in the week of May 5-12.
  • You will attend two performances during the week of May 14-19. (8 pm evenings or 2 pm Sunday matinee).
  • Rehearsals will be scheduled based on the availability of information provided by readers before casts are selected. Please give us as much information as you can.

Rehearsal and performance spaces used for this festival are accessible to mobility-impaired artists.
