Job Description
The Ribbon Rouge Foundation (RRF) is a grassroot organization that promotes health equity and social justice through the Arts, using storytelling, community arts, and meaningful conversations to drive positive change. RRF is organizing Jabulani Arts Festival, an interdisciplinary arts festival to celebrate African, Caribbean, Black (ACB) artists and communities from the 2nd to the 4th of May 2024 at the Roxy Theatre. The festival will include theatre, dance, poetry and music performances and a visual art exhibition, as well as workshops and informal gatherings.

We are looking for a Festival Technical Director to oversee the production aspects of the Festival, including but not limited to:

  • Liaising with each curator (Visual Art, Theatre, Dance, Music) and the Ribbon Rouge planning committee delegate,
  • Liaising with the Theatre Network Production Manager to coordinate technical rehearsals and performances
  • Coordinating and scheduling load in and load out of all programs (Visual Art, Theatre, Dance, Poetry, Music)
  • Supervising and assisting with builds for performing arts programming as necessary

Experience and Skills Required

  • at least 2-3 years’ experience as a Technical Director or House Technician or related roles.
  • proven communication and leadership skills, team-oriented, efficient, with excellent interpersonal skills, superior organizational capacities, and a safe work ethic
  • experience in managing festivals or other multi-performance events will be an asset
  • a valid driver’s license is required
  • theatre certifications are an asset – rigging, fall protection, OHS, etc.
  • must be physically capable of taking part in all aspects of the work of the production department – builds, changeovers, strikes, etc.
  • experience creating production schedules, work schedules, build schedules, etc.
  • experience managing small scale production budgets and establishing and leading teams to be on budget and on time
  • experience in mentoring others is an asset
  • good problem-solving/troubleshooting skills
  • a background in multiple technical disciplines (with hands-on working knowledge) is an asset – especially lighting, sound, and rigging.
