The Christmas Skates. Book by Sarah Brandt. Music & Lyrics by Nathanael McClure
Cast: 4
Run Time: One Act (Rated PG)
It’s almost Christmas, and that means only one thing for Tom: presents! When his parents give him a pair of skates as an early gift, he is certain that it will be the best Christmas ever. But his hopes are dashed when he sees someone with newer, better skates. Meanwhile, Harvey, another kid in Tom’s town, is working to support his family and plans to give his sisters a small but meaningful gift. Harvey’s generosity and gratitude make Tom realize that this is a season for giving. With his family, Tom undertakes a “Christmas Mission” to surprise Harvey.

Mr. Scrooge’s Christmas. Adapted by Thomas Hischak
Script Sample:
Cast Size: Flexible 12-20
Run Time: Approximately 60 minutes
Emphasizing the ghost story aspect of A Christmas Carol, the play is narrated by Jacob Marley who, as he tells the audience, has been dead for seven years, but now returns to Earth to try and reform his ex-partner, Ebenezer Scrooge. The miserly Scrooge is seen frowning at carolers, chasing away charity collectors, and making life miserable for his clerk, Bob Cratchit. But Marley appears to Scrooge on Christmas Eve and sends three spirits: Christmas Past, Present and Future. Each spirit reveals a different aspect of Christmas and in the end, old Scrooge is changed and celebrates Christmas dinner with the Cratchit family.

The Velveteen Rabbit. Adapted by Scott Davidson
The Velveteen Rabbit is the timeless tale of love and sacrifice as revealed through the story of a small stuffed rabbit given as a gift to a little boy. When Scott Davidson’s sparkling adaptation premiered at the Serendipity Theatre Company in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times had this to say about it: “…a quality that sets it apart from many children’s theatre experiences: a rare and welcome sweetness. The tale of a toy rabbit made real through a child’s love is both entertaining and genuinely moving thanks to Scott Davidson’s uncloying, graceful adaptation of Margery Williams’ poignant children’s classic… Heart is the key word here.” Repeatedly produced by The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, this gentle and tender fable is ideal for both the young and the young at heart. A timeless tale with a warm spirit, this play is the perfect option for Christmas, Easter, or any time of year.
