AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT (Calgary):
Fire Exit Theatre is seeking actors for their May 2024 production of Outside Mullingar by John Patrick Shanley

SYNOPSIS
A poetic romance set in rural Ireland about neighbors stuck in the trenches of a land feud. Anthony and Rosemary grew up on adjacent farms and are now nearing mid-life crises. He’s an introverted farmer, she’s a woman who doesn’t mince words. When Anthony’s father threatens to disinherit him, Rosemary steps into the swirling mess of long-standing family eccentricities to take her shot at love. On the brink of catastrophe, they fight back despair and stubborn follies to unearth the magic of finding their hearts’ true home.

SCHEDULE: Rehearsals will begin in January 2024 taking place on evenings and weekends. A hiatus will be taken in March, with rehearsals resuming once a week in April. Tech rehearsals are April 28-30th with performances running from May1 – 5th at Engineered Air Theatre, Arts Commons.

HOW TO PREPARE: Side will be sent sides for your character. An attempt at an Irish accent is welcome.

HOW TO SIGN UP: Auditions will take place at Renfrew Baptist Church (1204 Renfrew Drive N. NE) on Monday Nov. 27th between 3:00-6:30 p.m. and Tuesday Nov. 28th between 6:00-9:00p.m. Please schedule an audition time by emailing Val Lieske at val@fireexit.ca .

We will be auditioning for the following roles:

TONY: An aging widower of many years, Tony has a curmudgeonly demeanor that conceals his caring heart. Not long for this world, he needles his adult son, Anthony, about whether he will leave him the farm when he dies. Though friendly with one another, he and Aoife uphold a longstanding dispute between their families that rankles.
AOIFE: Newly widowed, the aging Aoife carries the weight of years on her back. Even so, she hasn’t let time soften her sharp tongue. Not long for this world, Aoife lives with her adult daughter, Rosemary, and is concerned for her future, but wisely knows when to give her a wide berth. Though friendly with one another, she and Tony uphold a longstanding dispute between their families that rankles.

Fire Exit Theatre is a non-equity semi-professional theatre company. Actor honorariums are paid.
