Translations is an immersive performance for small audiences designed to be experienced with the “non-visual senses.” Accessible to both blind and sighted audiences, Translations invites everyone to hear, feel, smell, and imagine live dance. 2 different roles available:
- Performers – Fully involved in the research and creation process
[3 weeks: December 12 – 16, January 8 – 19] - Guides – paired with performers (one to one) for the second portion of the collaboration
[2-weeks: January 8 – 19]
This collaborative piece contains text, speaking, memorization, and choreographed movement; prior experience performing and speaking in public is helpful. During the workshop portion, we’ll be collectively devising a script and the choreography.
Most importantly, we are looking to build a team of artists who are curious about the process and research of live audio description, particularly for Blind and partially sighted audiences, and those interested in collectively devising new ways to incorporate live-description within artistic performance; opposed to accessibility as an afterthought. Inside Out and All Bodies Dance Project are also committed to this ensemble reflecting Calgary’s cultural and gender diversity.
