CHRC is pleased to announce more available funds for the Student Work Placement (SWP) internship subsidies for the Cultural sector! Employers are encouraged to apply now for wage subsidies to hire post-secondary students. Wage subsidies of 50% to a maximum of $5,000 are available immediately for placements till March 31st, 2024. Subsidies may be increased to 70% with a maximum of $7,000 for students confirmed to be part of a priority group (to learn more about priority groups, click here). The subsidy is available for placements till March 31st, 2024. The funds may be used to employ students from all academic fields to gain work experience.
Before applying, the three key evaluation criteria are:
- The employer must be a (non-governmental) cultural sector establishment (profit or non-profit).
- The student must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution, must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with the laws and regulations of the province or territory in which they are employed, and the student must either be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person granted refugee protection under the law.
- The job description should be related to the student’s field of study and thus enable the student to apply their knowledge and/or allow the student to develop skills for the labour market.
