What is Fringe?
Born of a revolution Fringe is a do-it-yourself movement that cultivates ongoing collisions between community and art. In essence – Fringe is one of the largest theatre Festivals in North America. The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival was founded in 1982 on the power of story by creating a space for Artists to perform and create unique productions ‘on the fringe’ or ‘on the edge’ of the arts scene. Since then, Fringe has been home to Artists, and artistic risk thanks to tens of thousands of Artists and Volunteers and millions of Fringers who have built this Festival.

Where do you come in?
We want to see your show at Fringe! This year, Fringe runs from August 15 – 25, 2024. And we sincerely mean it when we say: we want to hear your story. We want to invite you to the chance to showcase your art, your dance and especially your theatre. Fringe is for everyone because everyone Fringes. We are built out of community, and community stories which include YOUR story. The lottery process is unjuried and drawn randomly – so fingers crossed that the luck of the draw is on your side.

We provide direct support to Artists through our Festival Lottery Program. All artistic programming featuring Local, National, International, Theatre for Young Audiences, and Outdoor performances in Fringe-managed venues are selected through a Lottery draw.
