Call for Submissions (Edmonton): IBPOC Writers In Residence Program – Alberta Playwrights’ Network

With the support of the Edmonton Arts Council, Alberta Playwrights’ Network is offering our first IBPOC Writers In Residence Program for theatre creators in the Edmonton area.

Submission Deadline Monday, October 23, 2023

The Program:

Selected playwrights/theatre creators will be engaged in a yearlong creative process where they will be paid to create. During your year with us, you will be provided the opportunity and resources to create a new work for the stage. Selected writers will be given a $6000.00 commissioning fee, dramaturgical resources, and mentorship. At the end of the process, the selected candidates will have an opportunity to have their new works workshopped by professional actors, culminating in a staged reading presentation to the public.

As part of the process, creators will be asked to assist our organization with meeting some of our outreach goals. This will include reaching out to under-represented communities, speaking on behalf of APN, and meeting with artists and theatre creators. APN and the selected candidates will create a work plan for these community interactions.
