Sylvia
A play by A.R. Gurney
Directed by Ted Lach
January 12 – 27, 2024
A smart, silly, sophisticated, and occasionally salty comedy about relationships, nature, and growing older. Greg is a man of middle age, a restless empty-nester tired of his job in finance and looking for meaning in his life. Sylvia is an exuberant lab/poodle mix, astray and looking for a new home. When they meet at the park it is love at first sight… but Greg’s wife Kate is looking forward to some independence now that the couple no longer has children to care for, and is less than thrilled by the clever and coquettish canine who jumps, slobbers, sits on her couch, and takes Greg’s attention away from his marriage.
Sylvia is a co-production with Scorpio Theatre. Callbacks and rehearsals will take place at the Scorpio Space (331 – 41 Avenue NE). Callbacks will be Tuesday October 17th from 6:30 to 9:30pm at the Scorpio Space. Rehearsals will be Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30pm starting October 19th. Rehearsals may be shifted depending on cast availability.
The Peacock Season
A murder comedy by Otis Bigelow
Directed by Nicola Payton
February 2 – 17, 2024
The play is set in 1908. Having made the mistake of marrying for love, Clarke and Cora Mariner are reminded upon renewed acquaintance with their former sweethearts, of all the riches their foolishness has denied them, and the simultaneous thought occurs to them that perhaps it’s not too late to try again. But, as divorce is unthinkable in their circle, murder appears to be the only answer, whereupon they try to do away with each other; their diabolical plans goes awry to the extent of nine unintended victims. Suffice it to say that the police are as inept as the murderers, and all ends in as stylishly, and as charmingly bizarre, a fashion as it began.
Callbacks will be Monday October 16th from 7:00 to 10:00pm at the Morpheus Rehearsal Centre. Rehearsals will be Monday/Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 10:00pm and Saturday afternoons from 1:00 to 5:00 pm starting November 4th.
