These classes will help your child gain confidence, collaboration skills, and creativity, while giving them the opportunity to meet like-minded people in the community! Each class will explore a variety of theatre creation exercises, improv games, and acting exercises, all while creating their own original piece of theatre to be presented at the end of the semester.
ADVANCED ACTING
Ages 12-17
This class is designed with the aspiring actor in mind! We will do a deep dive into character development, text analysis, scene work and monologues. We will explore a variety of acting techniques to develop body awareness and emotional connection to the material. We will apply learnings to scene work and monologues from contemporary and classical plays, which we will present in a showcase at the end of the semester. Prior acting experience highly encouraged.
ACTING FOR FILM/TV
Ages 12-17
In this class, students will have the opportunity to learn how to act for the screen, working with scenes from movies and television shows. We will explore the differences between stage and screen acting, dive into emotional connection to the material and acting techniques, and practice prepping for film & tv auditions. Scene work will be recorded in class, and students will have the opportunity to see themselves perform, and receive a copy of their recordings at the end of the term.
MUSICAL THEATRE
Ages 5-8, 9-12, 13-17
Triple Threats rejoice as we learn how to combine acting, singing and dancing! Ages 5-8 will enjoy working on ensemble musical theatre pieces, exploring strong character choices within musical numbers and foundational skills in singing and dancing. Ages 9-12 and 13-17 will explore ensemble pieces as well as learning solo pieces to be performed at the end of the semester. In addition to musical theatre style dance, we will explore singing techniques and learn the art of storytelling through song. We will also practice musical theatre audition techniques in the older classes to prepare students for future auditions!
IMPROV
Ages 12-17 & Adult
Improv class is guaranteed to be great fun, while also playing a key role in development of creativity, quick thinking skills, and teamwork! Students will play improv games, perform in improvised scenes, and learn improvisation techniques that will serve them well in and out of the theatre. No acting experience is necessary to join this class, but participants must be willing to learn by failing and rejoice in saying “yes!”
SHAKESPEARE
Ages 12-17
In this class, we will explore classical acting techniques and apply them to Shakespearian monologues to be performed at the end of the semester. Students are sure to walk away with a deeper understanding and appreciation for Shakespeare, and acting skills that will serve them well in any genre of theatre. We will work on text analysis, understanding how to use iambic pentameter to inform acting choices, vocalization, and physical techniques to bring the words on the page to life.
