Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre is looking for a Treasurer

Closing Date: September 15th, 2023

If you are a financial professional who is passionate about not-for-profit theatre and developing Edmonton’s arts and cultural sector — this might be the opportunity for you!

Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre (WWPT) is a professional, Edmonton-based theatre dedicated to the development, production, promotion, and presentation of new Canadian playwrights and their plays, and to the education of the public in play creation. Now in its 45th Season, WWPT has long been considered one of the most influential producers of new Canadian work in Canada. WWPT has produced over 100 plays and over seventy world premieres of some of Canada’s finest playwrights.

As Treasurer, you will assist the organization with policy creation, provide high-level financial oversight, assist with fundraising and strategic direction, as well as promoting the work of the company through your networks and knowledge of Edmonton’s arts and cultural communities. You will chair the organization’s Finance and Audit committees working to support the vision of the Artistic Producer and General Manger via governance-level recommendations. If you are looking for an opportunity to make an impact in Edmonton’s arts communities, this could be the opportunity for you.

Desired Skills: We’re looking for financial professionals who are passionate about theatre and having a positive social impact, with CPA or equivalent credentials. Skills or experience in any of the following areas would be considered assets but are not required: theatre management, not-for-profit arts and cultural board experience; fund development, marketing, human resources, financial planning, and networking.

Commitment: Successful candidates will be required to attend board meetings once every two months providing reports to the board that summarize WWPT’s financial position in collaboration with WWPT’s professional staff (the General Manager, Bookkeeper, and Artistic Producer). The Treasurer will organize and chair Finance Committee meetings and make themselves available to WWPT’s management team for weekly cheque singing. Board meetings are typically held monthly on the fourth Tuesday of every month (a minimum of 6 meetings per year). Board Members are expected to attend 75% or more of WWPT’s productions and events yearly. Board members are asked to make a commitment to serve a two-year term. The estimated monthly time commitment is 10-15 hours a month.

How to Apply: Applications sent via email are preferred. Please include a resume and letter of interest saved as one file. Please submit all applications to Elliott Tanti, e@tanti.ca.
