About Allison Lynch

Allison Lynch is a Calgary-based singer, actor, composer and multi-instrumentalist. She has appeared either onstage as a performer or behind the scenes on the creative team as a sound-designer, and/or composer/musical director (sometimes simultaneously) at nearly all of Calgary’s theatres and many theatres across Canada. Allison received three Betty Mitchell Awards for acting, one for Outstanding Composition, and multiple nominations for musical direction in Alberta, Vancouver and Victoria. She was also awarded the Critics Choice Award for Outstanding Design at the Greater Victoria Regional Theatre Awards for her music for the Belfry Theatre’s production of Ministry of Grace. You may have seen her onstage outside Alberta in productions at the National Arts Centre (Ottawa), The Grand (London), Rainbow Stage (Winnipeg), Persephone (Saskatoon), The Arts Club (Vancouver), The Drayton Festival (Ontario), The Belfry (Victoria) or The Chemainus Theatre Festival. Favourite performance credits include, Forgiveness, One Man, Two Guvnors, The Secret Garden, Steel Magnolias (Theatre Calgary), Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, All’s Well, Julius Caesar (Shakespeare Company), Waiting for the Parade, Ash Rizin’ (ATP), Sweeney Todd, Double Indemnity, In the Heat of the Night (Vertigo Theatre), Once (Chemainus Theatre Festival), Vigilante (National Arts Centre).
Allison also composes for film, tv, radio and podcasts, and has performed at the Calgary Folk music festival, Medicine Hat Jazz Festival and Brazilfest, and has toured Ontario as well as performing as a soloist with the Winnipeg and Victoria Symphonies as well as the Malaysian Philharmonic in Kuala Lumpur. Most recently she appeared as a soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Rune Bergman, in their Movie Magic concert where she performed the music of Leonard Bernstein and Ennio Morricone. Allison’s album Skin & Flame was nominated for a YYC music award for Jazz album of the Year, and her song Try was featured on Ep. 6 of HUDSON on CBC Gem which she performed live. Her music has been featured on CKUA, CJSW, and on Saturday Night Jazz with Laila Biali on CBC radio. Catch Allison this fall in Vertigo Theatre’s production of Jekyll and Hyde, followed by Theatre Calgary’s A Christmas Carol, for which she is the composer and musical director and also appears onstage as the narrator/fiddler.
