INSERT CLOWN HERE – Clown Call
Calgary and Edmonton Fringe Festivals
Producer/Theatre Company: Parlous Theatre
Written & Directed by: Jacob Willis & Kendelle Parks
Parlous Theatre is casting non-union local Clown performers for their new theatre project INSERT CLOWN HERE, a hilarious comedy-of-errors that combines a fully rehearsed play with improv and Clown.
SYNOPSYS
We take a fully-rehearsed 19th-century melodramatic masterpiece (which some have called our magnum opus) and insert a random, unrehearsed, Clown as the main character – which could be you!
We are looking for 6 Clown performers for the Calgary Fringe Festival and 6 for the Edmonton Fringe Festival.
PERFORMANCES
Calgary Fringe Dates August 4th – 12th (August 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 12th)
Edmonton Fringe Dates August 12th – 27th (August 18th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 26th)
As a Clown, you will be required to attend (1) performance.
During each performance, a random clown will be inserted into our play as the lead character. It is imperative that the clowns enter the “play” without any prior knowledge of its contents, this means if a clown is picked to be the actor for a performance, they are retired from the show, and will not be able to perform in it again.
REHEARSALS
Clowns will be asked to attend either a production meet and greet/jam in person prior to performance and/or meet virtually with the directors.
COMPENSATION
Clowns will be compensated through the profit-share from their performance with a guaranteed minimum of $50.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Headshot and Resume
A short video/ self tape (1 minute max) of an example of your work. This could be a Clown performance, physical comedy routine, or a short comedic bit. We just want to see you and whatever you feel best represents your “Clown”. Take that in whatever sense you will.
*Note: clown training is not a requirement for casting. We are mainly looking for performers with an openness and sense of play. If you do not own a clown nose, you can paint a dot on your nose, but again, this is not required.
We are interested in performers across all backgrounds and identities. We strongly encourage submissions from performers of equity seeking groups.
To submit please fill out this Google form, no later than July 12th, 2023
(Earlier submissions are encouraged and will be prioritzed)
