Morningside Road is a new musical about family, love and the pursuit of truth. A girl in search of what it means to live a fulfilling life seeks advice from her granny who shares stories of her past growing up in Edinburgh, Scotland. As her granny’s memory begins to be stolen by dementia, the girl struggles to keep their connection and is ultimately left to question what is fiction, what is reality, and what the discovery of the truth actually means.
- GRANNY: (70-85) She/Her. From Edinburgh, Scotland now living in Edmonton, Canada. Suffers from dementia. Witty and lover of words.
- LAD: (25-30) He/Him. From Edinburgh, Scotland. Elaine’s (Young granny) love interest.
Notes: Actors must be able to do a Scottish Accent (Edinburgh). Strong singers and movers are an asset.
Please prepare a 32-bar cut of a folk song or musical theatre ballad. There will be an accompanist present so please bring sheet music. You will also receive sides prior to your audition to prepare. The music in this piece is inspired by Celtic folk music, so please use this to inform your audition material choices.
