Call for Submisssions (Fort McMurray): Directors, Designers, SM – Keyano Theatre

Keyano Theatre Company is seeking expressions of interest from Alberta’s creative community of directors and designers that enjoy working in a community theatre environment.

Keyano Theatre Company (KTC) is the producing community theatre company operated by Keyano Theatre. KTC has produced over 160 productions since their creation in 1980. Fort McMurray has a strong, dynamic, theatre community and KTC supports our local volunteer actors with paid professional artistic teams to present challenging, memorable, safe, and inclusive onstage performances to our region.

Keyano Theatre Company’s 2023-2024 season consists of three community theatre productions that perform 5-6 shows over two weekends and one youth production. The season is composed of one musical in February 2024, and a non-musical (drama, comedy thriller etc.) in October 2023, and April 2024. In August we produce our Young Actors’ Summer Intensive entitled Drama Force, which is a three-week immersive program for youth aged ten to seventeen involving acting, singing, and dance to present three performances on the Keyano Stage at the end of the program.

All our shows are performed in the Keyano Theatre, a fully equipped, proscenium fly house with seating up to 594. The theatre is equipped with a scenic woodshop, costume, and prop shops.

The director residency ranges from 6-8 weeks, with rehearsals occurring throughout the week. Travel and Fort McMurray accommodations are provided by the theatre as well as a great local technical team to work with. Design residencies are determined by the discipline which is typically 2-4 weeks.

If joining the Keyano team for any of our productions has piqued your interest, please send us a note expressing your interest and a CV or portfolio of your work. We seek expressions of interest from Directors, Music Directors, Choreographers, Set, Costume, Lighting Designers, and Stage Managers.

We will review incoming expressions of interest as they are submitted and reach out as needed for our season. Please send all responses to care of:
