What’s On (Edmonton): Ubu Roi – Studio Theatre, University of Alberta Department of Drama

Alfred Jarry’s infamous 1896 comedy Ubu Roi follows the ridiculous rise and fall of Père Ubu in his greedy struggle to conquer other nations by use of violence and sheer dumb luck. The play is a zany warning against the powers of an ever-hungry despot, a warning which seems ever more pressing in our modern world.

The Studio Theatre production features the work of MFA Directing candidate David Woroner and MFA Theatre Design candidate T. Erin Gruber, with performances by: Karen Gomez Orozco, Christian Krushel, Larissah Lashley, Emily Lizotte, Aaron Refugio, Kristin Unruh, Alice Wordsworth, Katie Yoner, Lora Brovold, David Horak and Daniel Halpern.
