Searching for a Director and Projection Designer for the upcoming Edmonton premiere production of Omisimawiw.
This is a paid opportunity inviting you to collaborate with intelligent empathetic Edmonton-based emerging artists. As a first-time producer on this project (with Riser 2023) I want to ensure I create a space where the actors, designers, and all other creatives already onboarded feel safe and confident in exploring (at times) difficult and close-to-home topics. I am searching for empathetic, creative, chill individuals who are indigenous or understanding of indigenous issues, able to continue ongoing discussions on indigenous femininity, and can connect with themes of feeling lost. I’m hoping maybe this is you.
If interested please email Shyanned2010@gmail.com with
- A theatre resume/CV that demonstrates your experience, or something of similar value
- A cover letter/paragraph that outlines your area(s) of artistic practice, why you are interested, and what skills/experience you would bring to our team
Omismimawiw (The eldest sister – Cree) is a developing project based around connecting to indigenous identity. It expresses issues disconnected indigenous youths face both internally and externally, specifically calling attention to the pains of applying for status in a system set up against them. Based on a true story about the playwright meeting their sibling on the Edmonton LRT.
I strongly encourage submissions from individuals of all communities and intersectionalities regardless of gender, age, race, sexual orientation, or ability. I recognize that the identity of each person is fundamentally plural, multidimensional, changing, and evolving, and welcome all to apply.
