Job (Edmonton): Artistic Director / Producer – Theatre Yes

Theatre Yes is seeking an Artistic Director / Producer to continue to realize the company’s mission, mandate, and role in Edmonton as a producer of provocative theatre and performance events. The Artistic Director / Producer(s) are the senior management of the company and as such lead and carry out the company’s artistic and business activities with the guidance and oversight of the Board of Directors.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Artistic Director / Producer manages and executes the artistic vision and business of the company, including securing and managing funding and resources. Theatre Yes is seeking an individual (or team) that has a vibrant creative practice driven by artistic risk-taking, a proven track record of artistic success, with strong management, arts administration, and leadership skills. We are seeking individuals who are creative problem solvers, and embrace lateral decision-making and innovative visioning.

The Artistic Director / Producer will have a broad range of oversight and responsibility for the following: -selecting and scheduling Theatre’ Yes’ programming -generating and developing new material -selecting artistic personnel -meeting and maintaining the artistic standards -fundraising -preparing and submitting grant applications -budgeting -overseeing the fiscal management of the organization within the approved budgets -administrating the company, including all filings for government bodies, granters, and funders -maintaining the organization’s ongoing operations -developing an overall financial and artistic strategy for the organization to advance its mission and mandate -acting as the lead spokesperson for the company to members of the government, public funders, unions, other trade and professional organizations, corporate sponsors, major private supporters, patrons, volunteers and the media -representing Theatre Yes locally as well as at a provincial and national level.

Salary: $40,000 per annum.

The successful applicant’s resume will reflect the following experience: – a proven track record of excellence in the development and production of new and original Canadian work -strong leadership skills -the ability to plan every aspect of a theatre season from concept to realization -an informed perspective on the appropriate management of small arts organizations -ability to motivate, inspire and collaborate with artistic personnel, administrative staff, donors, board members, and other volunteers in achieving specific goals and priorities -a working knowledge of Edmonton’s professional theatre community -the ability to prepare detailed operating and production budgets that can be delivered within limited resource allocations -a working knowledge of the Canadian Actors Equity -a comprehensive understanding of municipal, provincial and federal funding agencies with a demonstrable record of success with the granting process.
