SYNOPSIS:
(CW: explicit descriptions and depictions of eating disorders, descriptions and depictions of emotional and physical abuse, mentions of sexual assault, mentions of self-harm).
Through the packing up of her childhood home, Broken Home explores the deteriorating condition of Laura, a teenage girl struggling with anorexia, her relationship with her religious mother, and the role of her mother and her religious upbringing in the development of her eating disorder. This play is an interdisciplinary treatise detailing the importance of understanding trauma and includes traditional drama, spoken word poetry, dance, and physical theatre.
As Broken Home is still early in its development, the aim of this workshop is not to work through the entire script, rather to experiment and further develop complex scenes within the script. We enthusiastically welcome big ideas and collaboration in this process.
