Red Deer Players is looking for scripts for Season 3 of Breaking Cover, our yearly series of staged readings.
Breaking Cover is a series of rehearsed readings of new plays by Alberta playwrights that are considered to be “works in progress/nearing completion”. The intent is to feature scripts that are far enough along in the creative process that the playwright would benefit from hearing the work read aloud by experienced actors and with an audience present (thereby gauging audience response). The series is not intended to be a performance of a finished radio play production. Therefore, technical aspects typical of radio plays such as sound effects and music are not used, and the stage directions are read aloud as written in the script. The overall focus is aimed at giving the playwright insight into how they may revise and improve the work before it is ready to hit the stage as a full production. Therefore, key to the program is the playwright’s attendance at the reading and the moderated discussion that occurs with the playwright after the reading.
If you are interested in having your script considered for our upcoming series, please submit your script to carsonrafuse1234@gmail.com with the subject line “Breaking Cover Submission.” Playwrights of any experience level may submit, and the authors of scripts selected to take part in the series will be contacted about dates by September 22nd.
Please send any questions about the series to carsonrafuse1234@gmail.com.
