Alberta Playwright’s Network is proud to be partnering with YYC Fringe to announce the second year of the 1000 Monkeys Project.
“If you give a 1000 monkeys a 1000 typewriters, eventually they’ll write Hamlet”. APN is looking for 8 intrepid playwrights to join us for 24 consecutive hours to write the next great Canadian play. You can write anything that you want. At the end of the process the scripts will be given staged readings as part of the Calgary Fringe Festival.
The 24 hour writing event will take place from Sunday, July 31 at 12 NOON and finish on Monday, August 1 at 12 NOON. The reading presentations will take place on Monday, August 1 at 5:45pm AND 7:45pm.
We are planning this for an in person gathering to take place at the Festival Hall in Calgary. The participants would be asked to gather at this space to write, share, and hang out.
This will be a volunteered event. Participants will be fed, watered, caffeinated, and supported as they write. Also all participants will receive a certificate for an ACT ONE service (one-on-one dramaturgy) which you can use for a draft of the play you’ve created or any other project you desire.
If you are an emerging playwright, established or have always wanted to try your hand, we want you! To submit please email Conrad Belau at monkeys@albertaplaywrights.com with a brief letter introducing us to yourself and work.
Deadline to submit: July 24, 2022
