Canada’s $100,000 theatre award celebrates the transformative and influential work of directors, playwrights, and designers, and this fall, the 2022 Siminovitch Prize spotlight will shine on directors!
Do you know an exceptional director working in English or French who deserves national recognition, $75,000, and the opportunity to support an emerging artist with mentorship and $25,000?
Nominations are encouraged for artists who have made a significant creative contribution to theatre in Canada through their body of work and who are continuing to create work demonstrating innovation and excellence. Nominees must have at least 10 years of experience as professional directors and will have developed a marked personal style or artistic approach to their craft. Eligibility criteria are listed here.
Siminovitch Prize Jury Chair Guillermo Verdecchia will choose this year’s jury of distinguished members of the Canadian theatre community.
“For more than 30 years, Guillermo Verdecchia has been one of this country’s most provocative, lauded, and innovative writers/directors/dramaturges. During this time, Guillermo has also been at the centre of Canadian theatre’s consideration of identity, power, and which stories and experiences our culture chooses to value. I believe he is exactly the right person to lead the Siminovitch Prize jury in this moment of long-overdue change within the sector.”

The 2022 Siminovitch Prize shortlist will be announced in mid-October, and each artist will receive $5,000 and a short, professionally produced documentary about their work. The Laureate and Protégé will be announced in a digital public event on December 1, 2022.

Le prix canadien de théâtre de 100 000 $ rend hommage au travail transformateur et influent des metteur.e.s en scène, des dramaturges et des concepteurs.trices; et, cet automne, place aux metteur.e.s en scène pour le Prix Siminovitch 2022 !
Connaissez-vous un/une metteur.e en scène exceptionnel.le qui œuvre en français ou en anglais, et qui mérite une reconnaissance nationale, 75 000 $ , ainsi que la possibilité de soutenir un/une artiste émergent.e par un mentorat et 25 000 $ ?
Sont encouragées les candidatures pour les artistes ayant apporté une contribution créative importante au théâtre au Canada et qui continuent de créer des œuvres faisant preuve d’innovation et d’excellence. Les candidat.e.s doivent avoir au moins 10 ans d’expérience en tant que metteur.e.s en scène professionnel.le.s, et avoir développé un style personnel marqué ou une approche artistique dans leur métier. Les critères d’éligibilité sont énumérés ici.
Le président du jury du Prix Siminovitch, Guillermo Verdecchia, choisira le jury, composé de membres éminents de la communauté théâtrale canadienne, de cette année.

La liste des finalistes du Prix Siminovitch 2022 sera annoncée à la mi-octobre, et chaque artiste recevra 5 000 $ ainsi qu’un court documentaire, produit professionnellement, sur son travail. Le/la Lauréat.e et le/la Protégé.e seront révélé.e.s lors d’une cérémonie numérique publique le 1er décembre 2022.
