Synopsis:
Bob and Jennifer Jones are middle-aged and dissatisfied with their situation. Their young, new neighbors, John and Pony Jones, pretend to have a light and bubbly life. When these two couples meet, their interactions draw out topics none of them want to discuss, and they all discover they share more than just a last name.

Characters:

Bob Jones – 40s – Suffering from a serious but vague illness, Bob has grown irritable and bored, lately. His impatience and unwillingness to communicate drives most of the conflict in his life.

Jennifer Jones – 40s – Jennifer is restless and depressed, because her home life has gradually lost a sense of excitement or liveliness. She needs some sort of outlet for all of her stress.

John Jones – 30s-40s – Also suffering from a vague illness, John behaves in a high spirited and jocular manner to mask his terrible health anxieties. He is unnecessarily protective of his wife.

Pony Jones – 30s-40s – The most young-at-heart of the group, Pony tries her best to maintain a positive and supportive attitude, but is unable to reach through to her husband in any serious way. She appreciates how honest and open her new neighbors appear to be.

Audition and Rehearsal Requirements:
To book an audition slot with our Production Manager, Cinnamon Stacey, please use this link, which includes all dates and times: signupgenius.com/go/60b094da5a629a1ff2-therealistic

Auditions will either be in-person at the theatre or over Zoom, but that will be clarified sometime between now and the audition dates. Auditioners will be reading sides from the stage play with one another. For anyone that has booked an audition slot, Cinnamon will Email those sides a week in advance of the auditions. Drop-ins and pre-recorded auditions are welcome. For pre-recordings, please message John Anderson to make arrangements: mumbling_man@hotmail.com.

Rehearsals will begin over Zoom, and will initially occur on Sunday afternoons as well as either Monday and Wednesday evenings or Tuesday and Thursday evenings, depending on availabilities. The rehearsals will at some point transition to an in-person setting. A fourth day in the week will be added to the rehearsal schedule, as more in-person rehearsals take place.

Please bring potential rehearsal conflict dates to the auditions. Headshots and resumes are recommended, but not required.

Copies of the script may be available through the Theatre Alberta library.
