This version of The 39 Steps is based on John Buchan’s ground-breaking novel, Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic movie and the exquisite idea of two Northern English writers Nobby Dimon and Simon Corble of doing the whole thing with just four actors. HANNAY played by one man throughout. PAMELA, ANNABELLA and MARGARET played by one woman. And all other parts (all other parts) played by two actors who are called, in this version, CLOWN 1 and CLOWN 2.

Characters:

RICHARD HANNAY – About forty (we’re game for anyone who reads 30-45). Attractive (which is in the eye of the beholder). Pencil moustache. English accent.
ANNABELLA SCHMIDT/MARGARET/PAMELA – Attractive (again, in the eye of the beholder), 20-45 years, Can do German, English, & scottish accents. Physical comedy
CLOWN 1 – Any gender – Multiple roles, many accents (cockney, scottish, english), physical comedy, improvisational skills a must!
CLOWN 2 – Any gender – Multiple roles, many accents (cockney, scottish, english), physical comedy, improvisational skills a must!

Please Note: We may expand the Clowns to more actors OR potentially double-cast them.

Please note: Ages are as given in the script, and are based more on how old someone reads as opposed to actual physical age. There will be flexibility in casting as they are also relational based on how two individuals read as siblings and parent and child.

The auditions will comprise of the following:
* Please indicate which roles you are interested in auditioning for and a Sides Package will be provided. Due to the multiple roles played by actors, this might require more than one piece.

* CALL-BACKS (if required): TBA
