The City Arts Centre has a reputation of providing quality art experiences that are accessible and affordable. Our Drama instructors instruct a variety of group programs at various Recreation Centres in the City including the City Arts Centre. Share your expert knowledge and passion for drama with the citizens of Edmonton! As an instructor, you must be confident and competent in your field and enjoy teaching others. You will be required to plan, prepare and teach lessons to a variety of skill levels. Opportunities are available in both child/youth instruction and adult program areas.
Positions available:
Adult Instructor:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that are skill level appropriate
- Instruct on all technical aspects of the drama style
- Coach participants on proper drama technique
- Implement safety and clean-up procedures established for the facility in keeping with OH&S standards
- Attend annual mandatory training
- Create an inspiring learning environment that is engaging, supportive and inclusive
- Display professional communication and interpersonal skills in a classroom setting
- Share knowledge of theatre while mentoring adults in a supportive social setting
- Implement safety and clean-up procedures established for the facility in keeping with OH&S standards
Child/Youth Instructor:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that are age and skill level appropriate
- Assess skill levels of students and adapt lesson plans accordingly
- Ability to problem solve and assess the needs of participants
- Good communication and ability to work independently
- Instruct on all technical aspects of the drama style
- Coach participants on proper drama technique
- Create an inspiring learning environment that is engaging, supportive and inclusive
- Creative exploration of games and activities to improve acting skills
- Implement safety and clean-up procedures established for the facility in keeping with OH&S standards
- Attend in-services as required
Qualifications :
- Minimum 18 years of age is required
- Minimum 1 year of post-secondary education from a recognized institution in education or in a field related to the arts with a focus on drama or theatre is an asset
- Knowledge of technical aspects of various styles
- Experience instructing Children/Youth (1-17 years) or Adults ( 18 + years)
- Possession of Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certificate is a requirement for Child/Youth Instructor
- Previous teaching experience in a classroom setting or equivalent
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a classroom setting with a variety of age groups and physical abilities
- Ability to work alone and independently
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Up to 5 temporary part-time, ongoing positions (3 for Child/Youth Instructors, and 2 for Adult Instructors)
Hours of Work: Up to 39 hours per week Evening and weekend is required
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary: $26.250 – $36.750 (Hourly)
