One thing that we’ve really missed over the last year and a half is being able to provide a space for the development and production of new work on our stage. While we still don’t know when we can produce those new works, we can, however invest in supporting and developing our playwrights!

Starting in January of 2022 we will be holding a Writer Circle for interested Walterdale members (new and returning).

Meetings will by held 1-2 times per month via online platforms where writers can share their work and hear it read by other members of the Circle as well as invited actors from our membership. We will also participate in other writing related activities such as experiencing and reflecting on work from PGC playwrights, as well as and opportunity for guided writing exercises.

The Circle will be facilitated by Kristen Finlay (Playwright – Pieces, Little Monsters, Double Double: the Tim Horton’s Musical, From Something, Like Water Beneath Her Feet, and Zachary and the Story-Telling Stones).

To submit, please send a letter of interest indicating your goals for participation and a brief description of the piece you’d like to work on, as well as your theatrical resume including any previous playwrighting experience. This opportunity is open to all Edmonton and area artists, Walterdale members both new and returning. Walterdale Theatre supports diversity in its membership, and is committed to inclusivity. Writers who are members of under-represented communities are greatly encouraged to submit.

Deadline for submitting: January 3rd, 2022.

Email your submission to: Kristen Finlay at pastpresident@walterdaletheatre.com

The Circle’s first official event will be on Friday, January 14th, but we will have a brief introductory meeting before that. There will be room for 3-8 participating playwrights.
