DESCRIPTION:

This is an open audition call for male and female dance students who are currently in professional dance
program age 16 and up.

For this production and a new beginning of post COVID performing arts, H/W School of Ballet has been
engaged by Calgary Opera to hire local aspiring performing artists. We hope this opportunity will give
them:

– Performances to gain experience from and build their resumes.
– Meet other industry professionals and aspirants to start making connections for their careers
– Improve skills such as stage presence, theatre etiquette and learn from successes and/or failures.
– Gain professional experience with an established organization such as Calgary Opera.

REQUIREMENTS:

Pre-professional level ballet technique and knowledge
Knowledge in Eastern European folk dance is a bonus
For female dancers, please bring pointe shoes

COVID-19 RESPONSE:

Calgary Opera will require all artists, staff and contractors to be fully vaccinated 14 days prior to the
start date of January 03, 2022. Calgary Opera will require proof of Vaccination, or a negative test (for
those with medical or religious exemptions) in the past 72 hours, and Government ID to enter the
building.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:

At H/W School of Dance:

At the Mamdani:
January 3rd to 20th, 2022
Generally, rehearsals take place Mon, Tues or Wed evenings, and Saturday, Sunday morn/aft with some
Sunday evenings. Detailed dancer schedule is forthcoming and is based on 15 hours per rehearsal week.
Onstage at the Jubilee Auditorium:
Saturday January 22 2pm-5pm, 7pm-10pm
Monday, January 24 7pm-11pm
Tuesday, January 25 7pm-10pm
Wednesday, January 26 7pm-11pm Dress Rehearsal. Call for rehearsal will likely be 6pm)
Thursday, January 27 7pm-10pm Dress Rehearsal with invited audience.
Performances: Saturday January 29, Wednesday February 2, Friday February 4 7:30pm curtain

COMPENSATION:

All dancers will be paid by honorarium of $1,250.00
