Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre is committed to supporting, developing and producing the work of Albertan playwrights.
WWPT programs outstanding small-cast plays (6 characters or less), which are formally or thematically original. We seek full-length plays (minimum 50 pages, 35-40 pages for a monologue) that ask bold questions about our lives in the modern world.
Beginning October 20th, playwrights residing in Alberta are invited to submit plays in process for dramaturgical support.
To be considered eligible for dramaturgical feedback, the submitted script must be written for performance for the stage. We are unable to support feedback to works for television, or radio, musical productions, or other forms other than stage plays at this time.
Eligible scripts will receive personalized one-on-one dramaturgical feedback from our dramaturgical team (our Resident Dramaturg or one of our Resident Playwrights) via phone or video conference (or in person as circumstances allow). This program is intended to support the writer’s goals, by asking questions to inspire and ignite the evolution of the work, and assist the playwright to identify their next steps including identifying upcoming opportunities at WWPT and at other venues in the city and the province. This program is entirely free of charge.
