Downstage is a busy and ambitious theatre company producing plays that create meaningful conversation around social issues. We are currently inviting applications for volunteers to bring their passion, knowledge and insight to our Board of Directors. Our ideal volunteers have an interest in theatre and are willing to be strong advocates for our company. We’re looking to create accessible live theatre, amplify stories that represent a multiplicity of lived experiences, develop world premiere works that explore issues of relevance to local audiences and continue to nurture a strong and resilient funding base.
The Downstage Board of Directors is in the process of transitioning from an Operating Board to a Governance & Policy Board. Directors are required to attend regular Board meetings each month as well as participate on at least 1 committee. As stewards for the organization, Directors provide strategic direction to staff; tackle the big questions that face our company; regularly review the organization’s financial statements and approve the annual budget; attend Downstage’s productions and events; and cultivate relationships to support the organization as advocates, donors & volunteers.
Orientation is provided to make sure Directors are comfortable and knowledgeable in their role. The typical term of service is three years.
Currently, we’re especially interested in volunteers with skillsets in fundraising, marketing, communications, equity diversity & inclusion, professional arts practice, arts administration, finance and human resources but are open to volunteers with other backgrounds as well.
