
DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
The Citadel Theatre, one of Canada’s largest and busiest professional, not-for-profit theatre companies and facilities, has an opening for a Director of Finance. We are seeking a highly collaborative individual who possesses excellent communication skills. This individual will have strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to develop organizational policies and procedures and consider organization wide issues and opportunities.
Function/Role:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance is an integral part of the management team. The successful candidate will work to ensure the Citadel Theatre’s continued success by providing effective operation for the Citadel Theatre in the following areas:
- Financial operations
- Information systems
- Systems management
- Box Office systems
- Insurance
- Property Tax
- Space Leases
This role requires an outgoing, positive individual who is able thrive in a lively, fast-paced, and dynamic environment. The Director of Finance must be ready to take a proactive leadership role in creating a respectful and positive workplace where all of our stakeholders are excited, connected and invested in the work of the theatre.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
Finance
- Participate in the preparation of operating and capital budgets for all areas of the Citadel’s operations.
- Oversee day-to-day management of the Accounting Department including personnel which includes but is not limited to: General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, bank reconciliations, monthly accounts which will include department cost reports, forecasts, cash flows, budgets, feasibility studies, ad-hoc reports and forecasts, preparation of the annual financial statements.
- Be the principal contact for the Citadels bankers and auditors.
- Oversee and implement the ongoing development of accounting systems.
- Implement box office systems which include but are not limited to: systems for accounting, and cash control.
Leases
- Working with the Executive Director, ensure that an effective plan for contracting and invoicing is in place and oversee the administration of all tenants’ leases.
- Implement the appropriate recording procedures to ensure the effective accounting and collection of rental receipts.
Systems Management
- Develop and implement reporting systems for management and financial information purposes which include but are not limited to: recording of revenue and expenses in such a way as to facilitate management’s ability to make decisions based on accurate historical data. Record subscription and casual sales, donations, sponsors and ancillary giving and any other record keeping as determined to be relevant to the ongoing well being of the Citadel Theatre.
- Authorize purchasing as requested by Management and approved by the Executive Director.
Facilities Maintenance
- Oversee financial aspects of facilities maintenance.
- Authorize purchasing as requested by Management and approved by the Executive Director.
Other
- At the request of the Executive Director, act as the Citadel’s representative at arts related meetings, government departments, city council or other various groups and committees that would increase the profile of the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton and across the country.
- Be aware of the agreements in place at the Citadel Theatre and when required, work effectively with the agreements (IATSE, Canadian Theatre Agreement – Equity, Associated Designers of Canada, AF of M).
Annual Salary starting at $85,000 per year.
