Jubilations Dinner Theatre Edmonton is seeking positive, high-energy candidates for the position of Stage/Character Manager.
A Jubilations Dinner Theatre Stage/Character Manager is a much more active part of the audience experience than a traditional Stage Manager. This job entails a mix of tasks traditionally executed by a SM, ASM, Assistant Director, FOH Manager, Restaurant Host and Improv Coach. The immersive experience Jubilations provides requires the SM to be in-costume and in-character while greeting guests and moving about the theatre. Part of the job is instructing, encouraging and leading-by-example for the character servers and the actors with improvised interactions between guests and other staff.
The “Stage Management” part of the job involves setting props, maintaining the functionality of the set, ensuring safety, cast management and accommodation management for the company’s apartments. During the show, the SM cues the tech for the start of each act but is not responsible for calling any other cues. Instead, they watch the show and take notes to ensure it maintains the quality standards set by the director, choreographer and musical director during rehearsals and conducts tune-up rehearsals when needed. Other tasks during the acts, such as running follow spots, may be required. Having a foot in both the production side and the performance side of theatre is an asset for this job.
