Open Call for all Alberta High School Drama Teachers and Drama Students
The MHHS Theatre Company invites you to join Zone 7 Online for
The 2021 Pilot Lights Theatre Festival:
Solo Performer Edition
THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT A PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JUNE 7!
One Act. One Performer. Online.
We know that many Alberta schools are looking for performance opportunities due to fluctuating COVID restrictions for theatre performances. That’s why we have created a “Solo Performer Edition” of our Pilot Lights Theatre Festival. With a special focus on solo performances, we hope to offer young performers, playwrights, and directors a unique opportunity to showcase their work. Whether you come from a large theatre program or are learning from home, you’ll be able to take part!
Join Drama Students from across Alberta!
We are looking for video submissions of original plays written, directed, performed, and produced by Alberta High School Students. Our goal is to feature student plays from every corner of the province!
Film Your Play Anywhere!
Under the spotlights or under the sky, you can film your play anywhere! The setting is entirely up to you. You can build a set or use a location in your community like a coffee shop or a park. Your video can be filmed with just an actor and a camera or “live on stage” to get an audience reaction.
You can also edit the show however you like. For example, some productions might use a continuous shot of the performance, while others try multiple takes with a variety of camera angles.
Just be sure to consider copyright as you will be uploading your production to YouTube. Remember we are looking for original plays only. As well, any music must be public domain or owned by you. (Sorry, cover songs would not be accepted and may be flagged by YouTube).
Once your film is complete, submit your links along with your application to the Pilot Lights Festival website.
The Pilot Lights Theatre Festival Is Online Now Until June15
We will be gathering videos over the coming months, but the Festival begins in June. The Deadline to apply is has been extended to June 7.
We’d love to share your pro tips with the up-and-coming generation of theatre artists! If you are an actor, writer, technician, or designer and you’ve got some professional insights that you’re willing to pass on, let us know! Email Richard Grafton at [email protected].
