Anti-Fat Bias in Creative Process
WEDNESDAY, MAY 26, 2021
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
WEBINAR
What role do we have as directors, playwrights, designers, producers, educators, actors, and audience members in creating safe and welcoming creative processes for fat bodies in the performing arts?
Join four Albertan artists — Andrea Beça (they/them), Keshia Cheesman (she/her), Bianca Miranda (she/her), and Mieko Ouchi (she/her) — in conversation about anti-fat bias in audience accessibility, casting, hiring processes, rehearsals, dressing room/backstage safety, post-secondary training, costume, and set design. A special presentation on related findings from April MacDonald Killins’ report, Stories to Action: Co-creating Inclusive Pathways to Professional Theatre in Edmonton, will be shared as part of the session.
This session will take place on Zoom Webinar. ASL Interpretation provided by Noah Greenwood (he/they), and Robyn Lavender (she/her). Otter.ai Live Transcription will be available.
Content Notice: This session will openly discuss fatphobia, weight loss, and diet culture.
